A nice fondue of cheesy accents that would make Deus Ex blush!
Or so I imagine, if this is a sample.
Ugh.."The Source" was a horrid take on the franchise. Poor Adrian Paul.
Is sean conery going to be in this? if so instant buy.
Xbox 360, PC and PS3, not ps2. At least according to the clip. Not that it matters, it looks rather phoned in (which means it's true to the handling of most of the franchise).
Oh ho ho 2008 A.D. I see that clever little thing you did Highlander. In other news the graphics were terrible.
Come to think of it this is actually a cool idea maybe not the story line but the "protect your head" Idea only having your head cut off kills you. I would love to see an MMO with the function of cutting off someones head to steal their powers.
Hey, let's not forget Quentin MacLeod, from the animated series!
Silly Fahey, theres a ps3 box there not a ps2 one.
The entire soundtrack better be nothing but Queen.
@NotAZombie: The graphics reminded me of spider man so maybe some free roaming is in order?
But will it be better than the Atari Jaguar CD version?

I loved the movies, but the fact they got a new guy could also mean that the game won't be a shitty movie license game. However, im not too happy with that voice actor.
But I will keep an eye on this, well I will keep and eye on it and read about it aslong as Kotaku keeps me updated and it keeps looking better. So, what genre is it btw? :)
You forgot Quentin MacLeod from the animated series!
Bah @ getting distracted by work and forgetting to hit post.
Shoulda used the Queen song.
Highlander is the best, the tv series gave us A kind of magic. A great Queen album!
I vote that generic movie voiceover guy is fired and replaced by generic scottish accent guy.
I decree all narration should be done by Sean Connery
God damn i love that cheesy scotish accent.As long as every single character talks like that I may just buy the game....well no thats a lie,Im not...mainly because its gonna suck since by the looks of things its not based on Highlander 2.
If they want a proper highlander game they need to go back to the basics of the awesome combat in Jedi Knight II combined with the limb losing ability that was allowed only by a special code within console. ;D
Now that would be a highlander game worth buying.
Seriously!
Am I the only one that saw the irony of the trailer proudly announcing "There can be only one!" with the 360 case...and then adding 2 more cases to the mix.
Fahey, I instantly cracked up over the "There can be only several" remark. Years and years ago, one of my friends said exactly that after returning from Highlander: End Game, and I vowed never to return to the series.
This game looks like it will pose no threat to that vow. Sigh...
The Source wasn't a TV movie, really.
It was a movie that never managed to lend a theatrical distribution deal.
Besides, it had Peter Wingfield, in it. Wingfield FTW!
Nobody's fanclub can rock a pig and a fork on a velvet pillow like Peter Wingfield.
That's it, Methos needs his own game dammit!
@Quark:
What about Tyree MacLeod? He dropped out of the tournament of immortals to pursue a rap career.
"MacLeods are their?" there*
What about that anime Highlander film? Are the new Highlander comic book? What Macleods are they?
The best film series ever...is going to now be the best game ever.
Is it wrong that I'm probably going to buy this, no matter how craptacular it is?
As long as they don't start talking about the ozone and the environment I'm good to go.
Anyone else catch the "Only for Xbox 360" stamp on the Xbox 360 version's box art?
Seriously with the way the abused the Highlander storyline I wish they would do a FF7 crossover staring Cloud MacLeod...I amuse myself...Oh and you forgot the American produced, Japanese directed/animated Highlander: The Search for Vengeance starring Collin MacLeod (which coincidentally was pretty ok as a story).
@silkylove:
LMFAO
Immortality apparently runs strong in the MacCleod family.
I do not believe that the Highlander franchise exists. As far as I am concerned there was one movie, and thats it. Anyone who tells me otherwise is lying and I do not believe them. I loved the first(and only) movie so much.
I don't mean to be an a**hole, but there's some mistakes in the Kotaku story on this.
The first is grammatical and it happens in the first sentence. It should state "How many freaking MacLeods are THERE?" instead of "How many freaking MacLeods are their?"
Secondly, the end of the trailer shows the game for PS3 and not for PS2 like the Kotaku story says. You're better than Gizmodo, guys. Come on. (Or ban me, whichever you think is more appropriate)
Personally, I loved the TV series a lot more than the movies. In any case, the environments certainly look very nice.
Other than that, we really don't know anything do we? Meh.
Ten-jew warriors? I don't think that's how you pronounce it. Come on, Scottish guy, we're supposed to believe you were THERE. Do some god damn research!
The only way I see a Highlander game being any good is if it were just kinda sorta based on the concept, and you were actually immortal. So that if you take a bunch of (non-decapitation) wounds then you get knocked unconscious and either wake up in a field somewhere the next day or getting ready to be buried.
Also sandbox.
"Whatever continuity you follow, this is beginning to get silly."
Please. Highlander got silly with everything after the first flick. Loved Sean in it but seriously, the whole storyline became dead to me from then on. Someday Hollywood will learn that some movies just don't need sequels.... ok so they won't but they should.
@RockstarLlama: I'm with you. "There can be only one"...movie.
I wish them luck with this. Its a cool story concept that a lot of people enjoy but translating it into a game doesn't seem feasible.
After watching Highlander about 50 times I doubt anyone could actually meet my expectations though.
I love how at the end it shows the 360 box for a 2 minutes and then its like, "oh, yeah... also on PC and PS3"
Highlander: There should have been only one.
I can hear JT's puter firing up right now ready to send out a "Now we have games where decapitation of one's enemies is the only way to win." blast. Anyone know what kind of engine it is running on? If it was like an upgraded version of Assassin's creed style combat I could get into it.
There's also Colin Macleod from the Highlander anime.
You'd think after being around for 2,000 years he could speak english without an Scottish accent.
Fox MacLeod for Brawl!
I dunno, I kinda liked the cyberpunkish sequel (I don't remember if it was 2 or 3) where MacLeod was on his way to dying of old age (in terrible makeup) when his planetary comrades once again invade the planet, reigniting the tournament. It's kinda weird that this never became a fighting game franchise.
But yeah, if this is a next-gen game, it's kinda ugly so far. Spoiled by COD and Gears. :(
@DigitalHero: "Do the Math", indeed.
Methos ftw!
I had always though a Highlander game could be cool. With Eidos, doubtful, but I'll just keep my hopes up. Just please tell me its better than Conan, my favorite movie license and most disappointing video game.
Wii version could be cool with swordfighting. How has Zorro not been made for Wii yet?
Cool I allways wanted a highlander game. But for love of god how many people in this dude family is immortal. I guess all you have to do to be the one is kill anybody with Mac in their name.
@Billkwando:
A Methos game would be great. Why he never got his own series is beyond me, it would have been perfect. Did you know Wingfield used to do beer commercials? Look on YouTube.
Methos: There's an art exhibit going on downtown. They've got a ton of ancient Greek artifacts.
MacLeod: Sounds boring.
Methos: Hey, I'm going, some of that stuff could be mine.
