We know there'll be more Guitar Hero games coming. We're pretty sure one of them - most likely an expansion or "encore" pack - will feature Aerosmith. Now, via EGM's Quartermann rumours section, we're hearing another may star...U2. Really, of all the bands that truly rock in this world, they choose U2? If you need me, I'll be on the roof, trying to come up with reasons why I shouldn't jump.

Aww man, why you gotta hate on U2?
One could even say that Luke still hasn't found what he's looking for.
And by that I mean a reason to live.
It's funny because it's a U2 song.
...Don't judge me.
Psh, I love U2. I don't know why people think it's cool to hate on U2. Bono has a freakin' AMAZING voice.
Although, admittedly, I'm not sure that the guitar parts in most of their songs are interesting enough to warrant an entire Guitar Hero pack.
I'm with you Luke...my severe distaste for Bono has ruined any decent song the band has written. Ever.
Like The Candyman. If you say Paul Hewson's name five times into a mirror, Bono turns up and lectures you about third world debt.
Boooo! Bono is starting to seem like the pop music version of Mario. He just appears everywhere whether we want him or not.
Yes! Now I can play that U2 song with the awesome guitar riff!...uh....you know...that uh....the one with...erm...
Nooo Luke! You'll never get to play Brawl!
anyone else feel like watching the south park episode with Bono now?
*makes gun out of fingers while jabbing them out in front of me*
YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!
Will Bill Gates be the bass player?
I hate poo2 and I'm Irish.
Great, milk the franchise a bit more. How much is this one going to cost? 60? 70?
@Lot krotan: No, but I suddenly have to visit the laboratory.
Guitar Hero?
Ahh, I remember. That was the prequel to Rock Band, was it not?
Just recently, I renewed my commitment to my New Years Resolution, from the year 2000. Ever year, I do my best to fullfil this resolution, and I've come close a few times, but I've never made it all the way.
This article, and in particular that picture, remind me why. And so, I renew my commitment...
TO KILL BONO.
I used to hate U2 but they won me over. Who was it you wanted instead? 'Manowar'?
"Fighting, fighting, fighting the world, I've been fighting the world!"
"Blow your speakers! With Rock and Roooooooooooooooooooll!"
Alright, now back to watching that boring Nintendo/Sony pie chart.
Ooof look at him. He sure is called Bono for a reason. So his name can be included in horrible puns like this.
'I'm nursing a BONO.'
''I getting a BONO just looking at this hunk of sex meat'
and so on and so forth.
BAN MONDAY IS FUCKING AWESOME
U2 seems like they'd be better in Rock Band, since they usually aren't heavy on the guitar solos that GH focuses on. This (hopefully) expansion (though I wouldn't put it past them to charge full price,) would probably be pretty decent though, about 3 or 4 Courics.
Great now we get to have Bono shove his political views up our asses in a video game too.
U2 is trully a stinkin pile of shit....
must weigh at least 140 Kurics...
@Insomnia Bob: I wish you great success this New Year and the best of luck on any resolutions you may have! <3
Woah, I'm sure they'll be challenging tracks, what with The Edge's two note guitaring capacity.
I'm with PurpleMonkey. U2 would be better for Rock Band. Also, I can understand why people hate U2/Bono. Their music isn't what it used to be. If you want to listen to good U2, listen to their first album; or anything from them up until Achtung Baby. You will be surprised.
U2 are a bloody great band. Get a clue you dorks!
Honestly, I think you kids slagging the band off are just too young to remember when the band was really at their peak... they're fucking brilliant.
You can't hate on U2's older stuff... they used to be amazing. Sunday... bloody sunday... :( i miss the good old days.
Besides the fact, that I don't care about Guitar Hero anymore, I should add, that I don't listen to Pop-music.
Sorry Bono lovers... Once a Metalhead, always a Metalhead!
\m/ (*_*) \m/
@tylerstyle: YOU CANNOT STOP THE POWER OF THE DUAL BASS DRUM PEDALS! >:O
@StopTheOncoming:
Hahahaha exactly what I was thinking
... fucking Bono.
yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah!
As South Park had uncovered: Bono is just a big pile of shit.
Nothing wrong with a bit of U2, and yeah Joshua Tree/War era stuff is great. Why the hell is their guitarist known as 'The Edge' when it's the most unmemorable one trick guitar thing ever?
a lot of worse bands have been on guitar hero already. i love their early stuff lots of good riffs.
It's bad enough that people don't see why Bono is so hateworthy, but then they go far enough to actually say that his shitty, overproduced, generic music is actually 'great.'
oh and also...
"YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!"
Have to agree with the above in that U2s style of music is more in line with Rock Band as opposed to Guitar Hero.
Then again we have Guitar Hero 3 in which you do play non-existant notes so maybe it is a match afterall.
Wow, this may be a ban Monday, and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I am astounded and disgusted by the level of childishness I have seen in these comments. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I have nothing but respect for the work Sir Paul David Hewson is doing as well as for the group U2. Disagreeing with his methods and perhaps hating his personality is one thing, ridiculing his efforts is another. As for their music, I believe they are quite simply the best rock group still in existence.
I do agree though that the U2 library and guitar Hero do not exactly fit. Rock Band as someone put it, one would be much more appropriate.
God help me, but I love U2, even if Bono's head is firmly up his arse.
But I can only picture their early songs (New Year's Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday) being a part of a music game. And even then, as a part of Rock Band. The guitar parts aren't terribly interesting enough to be put in with Guitar Hero.
I don't mind their later stuff, but they just wouldn't work for a music game. It sounds like there's just too much post-production in it.
On a side note, is it safe to say now that the Guitar Hero franchise has officially sold out? I loved GH I & II, but I was massively disappointed by III after playing a friend's copy. Certain songs that I though would be awesome ended up becoming chores with note patterns that don't make sense. Part of what made the previous two games so fun is that Harmonix made an effort to simulate how a song would actually play on a guitar.
With Neversoft at the helm, the note patterns feel boring and not as clever. There was never a moment where I hit some notes and felt like I had "totally nailed that part".
I've been waiting/hoping that bands would begin to release "Best of..." albums via Guitar Hero. I mean once the game has been developed it can't be too hard to develop the songs. Why not release 10, 20 or even 30 full GH games of different bands? I think it would be particularly great if some band, any band at all, released an entirely new album first to GH and a month or two down the road as a regular release.
In reference to the "did GH sell out" comment. I'm not sure that even makes sense when you consider that with the bonus songs most of the content is from bands most people are not going to be familiar with. Personally I dislike most of the metal-flavored bands on GH but I still love playing the game.
I did think for the most part the 80's version sucked, overall poor choice of songs.
My GH wish list would include 70's UK punk volumnes I & II (easily fill up two discs), an 80's california hardcore version, and Nirvana Bleach/Nevermind combo.
Wow this game would kick Ass ... if it was for Rock Band and not Guitar Hero. I want to sing these songs.
Sunday bloody Sunday, Desire, with Rock band drums I'd easily pay the $169.99. It's also one of the bands I can sing too and don't sound bad. But Guitar Hero Bullet in the blue sky it may get me to buy a Guitar Hero III.
Awesome, now I don't have to worry about spending any money because this would suck ass. Just like U2. Metallica-GH/Thrice-GH plz.
#1 As soon as any band does well, they are labeled as "sell outs" by those who believe music should always be at some underground level where the bands are not playing at sold out football stadiums
#2 A lot of great bands and artists are big fans of U2: Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, Ramones, No Doubt, The Killers, Sting, Norah Jones, Johnny Cash, Trent Reznor, Wyclef Jean, Mary J Blige, Rollingstones, and I can go on forever. There's a sample list across genres, and I know this for a fact because I've heard, read, and watched interviews of these artists say how much they like U2.
#3 How can you hate U2? They are the one band that doesn't do anythng to anyone but work so hard at fighting political and human rights issues around the world. They are the one band who didn't become pro-active because it's cool -- they've been doing that long before they became who they are today. Hating U2 is like hating someone who raised you. Bono has been nominated for the nobel prize the last few years. He's the only rocker who is allowed to be involved in peace talks with any politician in the world. Why? Credibility. How can you hate someone or a band who's trying to do so much good? They also aren't the kind of band that pumps out random albums every year just to keep the cash rolling in. I'm a huge fan, as you can tell, and sometimes it annoys me that they take so much time with their music. They won't release something if it isn't 100%.
#4 No good guitar riffs? As a guitar player and a student of classical music, if you don't think there are any good guitar riffs, then you just don't have a ear for music. I will be the first to admit that U2 songs are not made for the casual guitarists. It's not something you can pickup an acoustic guitar and start strumming to. The genius of The Edge is in the support of the music. U2's music "work together." You have to be able to understand the relationship and the conversation between all the instruments and the guitar always speaks at the right time and always says the right things. A lot of really good guitarists I know is a fan of The Edge, and I personally started playing guitar because of the stuff I heard in the 80's from The Edge. Just because Edge's guitar doesn't dominate or become the main peace of their song doesn't mean it isn't there -- you just don't have an ear for it, but apparently a lot of other people do. Just take a look at their accomplishments musically.
How can you NOT have U2 but have bands that appear on episodes of "where are they now?" or shows about one hit wonders?
Bono uses charity as a way to whore out his band. That makes me sick.
Eh. That's why I'll stick with Rock Band. Even if U2 shows up in Rock Band it will most likely be DLC so I won't have to download it.
@Roto13: It is a shame that you are so misinformed. If anything, his band has been LESS prolific because of his charity work. You may not like their music, but it is laughable to disagree with their charitable motives.
Oh Christ ... I am glad I gave up on GH when Rock Band came out.
This news makes me ever more happier I did.
For me it's simply impossible to hate U2. I guess it was Richard Hammond who said something along the lines of "I know I'm supposed to hate them, but every time they come out with a new album, all I can think of is 'Shit, they've done it again.'" I just can't name any other band with such an arsenal of tracks under their belts and still going strong.
And those complaining about the lack of guitar solos, some bands can play together, they don't need to take turns to be great. In that regard U2 would actually fit Rock Band better than Guitar Hero.
This would be better in Rock Band. There's no group that better epitomizes what the classic singer/guitar/bass/drums band line up can do.
Also: Shock and horror! Why would anyone ever put one of the most popular and long-lived bands of all time into a music game? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?!!?!1/1!?
Great. I just sprained my sarcasm. I hope you people are happy.
Oooookkaaaay, damage control!!
>>Bono uses charity as a way to whore out his band. That makes me sick.<<
Not true. Bono never advertises for U2 in and of his projects, debt campaigns, trips to Africa, trips to the Whitehouse, etc. He may mention U2, but hell, that's been his job for the past 25 years; he wouldn't have access to the Whitehouse or any of the connections he has if it weren't for U2. But he's not using any of this to advertise for the band. The rest of the band, while admiring the work he does, would rather he spent more time in the studio.
No u2 songs are complicated enough for Guitar Hero
I'm not a big Guitar Hero-er, but 1., there are different levels of difficulty for the songs, the U2 song(s) will just end up higher on the list, and 2, you clearly have not heard anything they did in the 90's. The Edge's guitar work doesn't often jump up and down for your attention, like your good ol commercialized rock. It's not Linkin Park, it's not Foo Fighters. Sry.
U2 music is generic
It's the generic music that is trying to sound like U2. True story. and end rant.
I have to put myself in the U2 camp. One of my favorite bands. I know it's the standard line to say, "Oh man, you gotta listen to their old stuff," but I have to say that my favorite of their albums is probably Pop (listen to "Gone" or "The Playboy Mansion" and tell me they're not awesome). That said, their newest album was disappointing. Being a U2 fan is difficult because so many people hate them, often for no reason.
@PogiJones: I don't think it's cool to hate on U2, and I couldn't care less whether it is or isn't. I hate their sound, and I especially hate Bono's voice.
I'm picky, so sue me.
@reecord2:
Sorry but despite Bono's ego, there is nothing memorable about the band that makes it a fit for Guitar Hero. U2s style of music to me is a better sum of the parts than individual accomplishment.
Wake me when Guitar Hero: Megadeth edition gets released.
