NeoGAFfer Wollan received the latest issue of Game Informer magazine today, and breathlessly rushed to his computer to transcribe details about the cover story - Insomniac's Resistance 2, the follow up to one of the PlayStation 3's biggest hits (and only really good launch title) Resistance: Fall of Man. Highlights include two story modes, one for single player and one for either split-screen local play or 8 player co-op. Also of note is the introduction of character classes, with players being able to choose from a tank, a specialist, or a medic for multiplayer goodness. Speaking of multiplayer, the game will support up to 60 players online, with players forming up in 4-8 man squads in the lobbies with different objectives during the match to help keep things from devolving into giant free-for-alls. Other details include limited randomized geometry within levels to keep things fresh, graphics and performance that tap more PS3 power than ever before, and much, much more.
Check out the GAF thread to see Wollan's complete write-up, or better yet just get your hands on a copy of Game Informer as soon as humanly possible. I've not known their writers to be given to unnecessary hype, so when they end a story with "Resistance 2 will be too epic to dismiss as anything but one of the biggest, boldest, and most high-reaching titles of 2008. It's a game that won't be ignored", I can't help but get just a little excited.
RESISTANCE 2 REVEALED! [NeoGAF - thanks, megadude]

Bring it on. ME WANT
WINNER!
Seriously, 8-player online Co-op SEPARATE story? Madness. They took the complaint seriously and ran with it.
I hate that if I want to read this now I need to go to the mall. -.- Stupid magazine delivery system.
meh, the first was as bland as...yknow, something bland.
OH MY FISTING GOD
60 player multiplayer...This could be a clusterfuck, or the levels are going to be absolutely huge.
I can't wait for this game. I loved the first one. And not just because it was one of the only good games at launch. It was a solid shooter all-around. This could shape up to be the hit FPS franchise Sony keeps hoping Killzone will be.
@TitillatedOcelot: LOL!!!!
That is the only way to describe my reaction
60 player online 8 player co-op
OMF(isting)G!
SHWING! Can't wait! 8 Player online co-op sounds kick ass!
i have my doubts about 60 player online sticking. for some reason i just dont believe that it'll work smoothly.
Awesome news. I hope it pans out. I loved Resistance: FOM, and it seems to be precedence that every new game Insomniac makes is way better than the last in graphics, technology and gameplay. Given the most recent Rachet game, this could be amazing.
@Winterbringer: It wasn't that bland, but come on. 8-player co-op doesn't perk your interest? If any of these claims are ture, then R2 will be one of my favourite shooters for a console. That's putting into the consideration that I liked the 1st one and I know Insomniac won't dramatically change their formula... I think
Wonder if there'll be any faithful recreations of churches in this one...
@TinyLightning: Resistance Fall of Man had 40 player online and it worked GREAT... no reason it can't do 60 player online now that the programmers have had more time with the hardware.
I saw the screens and boy does this game look amazing. The Chimera look extremely intimidating and the graphics is up a few notches. I love you INSOMNIAC! :)
I hope the two different campaigns are as deep as each other. That would be all kinds of awesome.
@Copesetic: Doubtful. Dodger is no longer at Insomniac. :'(
Anyway, as to Resistance 2. WANT!
This game made me, finally, like shooters on consoles for the first time since Goldeneye 64.
I really hope i'll like it as much as the first. :)
At the very least I hope they get rid of that horrid health system. It was the only FPS I've played in years that didn't have recharging health. Made the game a lot harder than it had to be.
If this works out, it would be amazing. The 60 person multiplayer with different objectives makes it almost a mmofps. The thing that really caught my eye was randomized geometry for multiplayer. That would really give new players a chance against people who normally dominate because of their knowledge of the maps.
However, the original was a little boring for my tastes. It seemed very generic.
Either way, it looks like the PS3 could have a year end like the 360 did in 2007.
OMFG! And I thought the 40 player online was massive! This is gonna be insane. I can't wait. I'm looking forward to this more than Killzone 2 now.
I don't want to dog on the first game because it was good. Maybe though, it was a tad bit bland at times. Part 2 sounds completely amazing. Even if they don't deliver on all of these promises, the ideas sound incredible.
8 player Co-op!!!????!!!!
Awesome to the maXXXXXX
Definitely cool news. I really enjoyed the first one. Wasn't the best shooter I ever played, but it was quite competent and a pleasure to play. I'll be curious to see where they take it now that they've had some time to let things stew a bit, could be very very cool.
Not to mention Insomniac seems to be really nailing the hardware if Ratchet is any indication.
OMFG!! This game will be amazing! Seriously, I didn't expect this. So The ewal power of the PS3 is begining to show??
Here's the pics dudes!!

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG???
Na, you can't be sorious. 60 Players online and 8 co-op, that's imposible, even for the all powerfull Ps3. But it if it's for real, dude i will for that game. PLEASE, PLEASE don't let us down Insongnia.
Wow, all of that sounds freaking awesome. 60 man maps? Objectives? Squad and class based combat? Separate story mode for co-op? Local and non-local co-op play?
I can't see a downside to this at all.
@TinyLightning: They had no problem with 40 player online and that was great.
60 player is still no problem as long as they still use dedicated servers.
Mag Scans: Bannable
Mag Covershots: Not so much
Here is the covershot: [i233.photobucket.com]
This is seriously going to a be a must buy first day. 60 plaers online thank you very much. It's going to be so fucking insane its going to have its own word soon. Can't wait til it comes out and play with soem of you guys. I expect nothing less from Insomniac
Time for me to start brushing up my skills on RFOM. Ye gods...8 player Co-op. It sounds too good to be true! Please don't let it be too good to be true...
RESISTANCE 2: RESIST MORE, FALL LESS
@PapaBear434:
The sad thing other people will.. :/
aye warhawk is 40 player online, it works fine with no lag at all - they could add 20 more on to that no? :P
but im more excited about the 8 player co-op :D
@TinyLightning:
Worked for Enemy Territory. Sure, it was chaotic. But so is an actual battle.
I loved feeling like there was an actual battle going on, and not just four vs. four bumping heads. To boot, the addition of objectives will certainly cause some spots to be choke points of sort, ensuring a long battle over held ground.
@Shindokie (psn and xbl): downside is its only on ps3 lolololololllolololooolol
joking! :D
here is hoping its better than the first.
I forgot to add that if home comes out to be great and adds features that will make playing online with friends easy and fun it will be great. Great i say.
@Fluffy22:
Warhawk is only 32 online. But Resistance is 40 and it runs flawlessly so this may be possible.
@ticalmc2k2: ah yes i get confused..plus ive been drinking :D
I just hope Insomniac doesn't overpromise and underdeliver.
Wow. That sounds amazing. I am a little skeptical if the can incorporate all of it. If it does happen, however, that is just amazing. The ideas alone are pretty incredible.
I am totally psyched about this. I had a blast playing through the first one in co-op. It didn't bring anything overly new to the table but it was a very solid, very fun shooter and considering it was a launch game, was very technically impressive.
holy 60???????? yes please
I'd be excited too, if I hadn't played the first one.
I mean... 8 player CO-OP????
MASS EJECT!
BAN ME , But Fahey you do Kotaku an injustice by posting wrong info.
If they get 60 players for multiplayer then all I have to say is FTW and all those weak 360 games cause the bar will have been raised really high
Never owned the first one, but the demo was fun and still looks good. I'll keep my eye on RFoM 2.
60 sounds like too much for 2 teams.
I say add a new team or two and make it truly chaotic.
@Winterbringer: You bland. [//awesome comeback]
@shagg187: Lol, i like what the picture says on the bottom.
"RESISTANCE 2:
-Sixty-Player Online
-Eight Player Co-Op
-Two Full Campains
ONE HUGE REASON FOR OWN A PS3"
Your are so damn right, gameinformers XD
Only 60? Back in the day, we had 128 man Quake servers going. Yes, I am that old...
60 player.....8 players coop....free!!!!
Hot damn!!! Come on haters. See if you can bash these awesome news by saying how boring you thought the first one was even though you never played it.
Like I said before, I love this gen. Every great shooter pushes the envelope further. I can't wait for the day where all standards are placed and games integrate every idea that's been developed all those months.
Oh man, all that info gave me wood. Is that wrong?
