Could Nintendo's highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl be pushed back a month? According to the swirling mists of internet rumor the hot title could be slipping from it's current early February North American release window to sometime in March. I've received several reports from different sources, including one video game store owner who claims to have received an email blast from his distributor alerting him to the delay. I contacted Nintendo earlier to see if I could obtain any sort of official word on the game's release, and of course received the usual reply. All together now: "Nintendo does not comment on rumors and speculation."
So far the game stores in my area are standing by the February release date, but then again I am a notorious preorder canceler, having once canceled 20 at a time in order to pick up a new DS, so they tend to walk on eggshells around me. If the rumor does wind up being true, it is only just another month. I'll just be in my bunker hiding from rabid Smash Bros. fans if anyone needs me.

This kind of stuff from Nintendo used to annoy the shit out of me. Now, I'm so used to this from them at this point delays from them don't even matter to me anymore. I'll still buy it if they delay it til July.

Whatever it takes to make it perfect. It's not like I don't have enough to play on the Wii and DS right now, anyway. Huge, huge backlog of unfinished/unplayed games.
Just so long as it doesn't keep getting pushed back until they have to port it over to the Wii 2.

Unless something else big is being released this holiday, you can bet where this will slip into. Go play a real fighting game or something while you wait since Nintendo will take its time on this one.
Gahhhhh... It needs to come out sooner rather than later, I'm relying on my fellow classmates to help me hone my skills in Brawl, something I won't be able to do over the summer, wherein I has no internets.

I dont understand the hold up on this game. It's not a next-gen title that requires tons of development time.

@okenny :): Holidays?? No, the game has gone GOLD in Japan, and they're airing tv commercials. It will be out in Japan within the month...a couple weeks delay is the most I'd expect for the NA release.

I'm not too broken-hearted because I've got such a huge backlog of games to play (including 3 or 4 on the Wii alone) so as far as I'm concerned, Nintendo can push this back to mid-summer. I still won't be ready for it.
@ARboom: A decade? Development started less than 3 years ago.
The way I look at it is: Nintendo does what they need to to make sure the final products live up to their standards. If that means I have to wait another month, fine. As I mentioned a while back, there's plenty of great stuff coming out in the first few months that I won't have to tear my hair out waiting for Brawl. If it does get delayed, I'll have more time to play DMC4.
Same thing happened to me with Assassin's Creed. Gamestop swore up and down that it got pushed back a week, yet I could find no other info to support such a claim, and it turned out to be false anyway.

@foxuser17: Agreed. The release date isn't being pushed back at the same time as Nintendo cranking up their PR machine in Japan. TV Ads = Game has a set release date. And besides, Sakurai would tell us, right? It's only 30 days, 11 hours, 58 minutes and 56 seconds away!
Ugh. I had a bad feeling about this by taking a look at the DOJO updates. Their pace has been quite slow and they only have 21 updates remaining. I'm sure Sakurai has many more things to reveal (Cpt. Falcon anyone?) and won't be able to reveal all by Feb 10th.
If (by some miracle) the delay means added voice support and improving the foretold long distance lag issues, then I'll accept the delay. We've been waiting years and a month won't be terrible; I want the absolute best that Brawl can offer. Either way the game's gonna sell millions.
Plus, its more time to spend games we would have ignored if Brawl was released on time; No More Heroes + Devil may Cry 4.
I saw this on the G4 site this morning. It's lists Game Crazy and Gamefly as the source for the delay news. On Game Crazy's website it lists March 31st as being the release date. But there is no change on Game Crazy's master release schedule in the store. The MRS still says Feb. 10th. Also there is nothing about the change on the Game Crazy audix system, in store intranet, or communication from the higher ups. The only change to the date has been made on the Game Crazy website. The Gamefly site lists the release date as 03/12/08. The Nintendo website and the Dojo Dump still give the Feb. 10th, 2008 release date. Who knows. I'm going to try to see if one of my contacts has more info.

The game doesn't have a lot of VAs, mostly text. I guess the online network is too crazy for Nintendo WiFi.

I rented Super Smash Bros on Gamecube and played it with 4 freinds and button mashed for 2 hours...is that the same game eveyone else played??

@Sailorcancer: Rumoured to be gold. Even if it is, it is possible that Nintendo's online network isn't prepared, even though the game is ready to go.
Let's hope they're using this time to work out the bugs in the firmware update that will allow voice chat with any bluetooth headset.

i knew this would happen if the rumor is true. i guess no more heroes had nothing to worry about if they still planned for a february release....but glad they decided to release there game on the 22nd of this month.

Also, about GameFly, they might be pushing their own date back to March in order to stock up in preparation for massive rentals. And GameCrazy could just be wrong.
also, the PAL-release has been pushed back till 2009.
