First TVs curved out. We were Fine.
Then TVs were flat. We bought Those.
A TV that curves in? I don't think so.

Doesn't seem very good for family viewing or multiplayer gaming. For a single person 3ft away from their TV, it seems okay I guess.

Why must they completely neglect the vertical peripheral vision?

@amost: It's just the lighting/angle. It's DLP. It has a crap viewing angle. So if you're not looking at the set straight on, the angle as it curves towards you is going to increase and the seams will be more visible.

On the other TV, I don't think we were given such a skewed view of the screen. I know LCD screens have horrible clarity when viewed at a shallow angle, and I suspect most flat-screen TV types follow suit. Sit square in front of this like intended, and it should work fine.

On the plus side, pillarboxing on a screen that wide shouldn't be as distracting as letterboxing would be.

What the hell is this 2880x900 resolution? Where is this number coming from? (I'm not saying it's false - it just seems like a random resolution) It makes no conceptual sense!

@Blah8: Theres a resolution 1440x900, so I guess they've just doubled the width and kept the height or something.
Pretty cool though, get rid of the contrast lines and it's a great product.

Man, they seriously should have fixed that FOV. The way they have it set up there's virtually no benefit to using a wider format screen since the edges are distorted so badly.

But yeah, it's the same OEM display from a visualization company.

As Badasscat already mentioned, I don't think you'll be likely to see the edges head on, when all of the light of the display is shot directly towards your eyes.

Anyways i don't see why people are dissing this. Imagine freakin bioshock on this. Resistance. Half life. Hell i'm picking one of these up if they're cheap enough. This is a pretty big step in immersion i don't know how you can hate this thing.

I'd rather have something at 3840x2160

It's made by the same company as the alienware model, and both are HUGE DLP sets. Cool concept, but I'd be more interested if the screens were LCD and could actually fit it on a desk, but then the price would skyrocket. My 22" for the PCs and 42" for the consoles are just fine with me for now.

it reminds me of the Ferrari 355 Challenge arcade cabinet. although the display looks squished and disproportionate. that screen would be marvelous for gran turismo, if they can fix that whole fish eye thing

Are those DLP too? Because if they're not, it's already a huge advantage over the other setup.

Anyways, I don't think it's bad... I like the concept.

But it's not for everyone. Personally, I'd rather buy a bigger screened TV than this...

@htd: Especially considering the only reason that first number is so high is that the screen is so wide. If I'm going to pay as much as this thing costs for my monitor, it should at least be 1080 resolution so any 1080 movies can be in their native resolution.

Well, my PC monitor is 1440x900, and this is essentially just a double-wide version of my monitor. Makes it easy for the graphics card to keep up with it, I'd guess, if it can deal with it as if it's just two regular widescreen monitors sitting next to each other.

Go for broke. Make it x4320 so it'll be able to handle all three TV resolutions without having to upconvert or downconvert. You'll just get pixels of different sizes. Oh, wait, that's _why_ they like to go with x900 so much, so it'll be a nice midway point between x1080 and x720, and you'll (hopefully) not notice the conversion process as much as you would if you were getting jumbo-sized pixels.
