Larry Hryb points out that Omega Five and Tron will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday. Omega Five will be 800 points, while Tron will be 400. Gamerscoreblog also posted up this short phone interview with Hudson which also shows you some Omega Five gameplay.
This week on arcade: Omega Five and Tron [Major Nelson]

Sweet Geebus I'm getting this Wednesday. Omega Five that is.
Yeah this totally smells like Forgotten Worlds, will be looking foward to it tommorow! Or is it the day after tommorow for over here. :x Damned timezones.
You had me @ Tron....
So how long is the playing time for Omega5? Im thinking of picking this one up but I am hoping for a long playthrough.
I'm out of points and my credit cards are toast for the love of Tron. I'll probably pick up a point card after payday on Friday.
I was hoping that they'd spring Rez HD on us too. They considered having that as one of the first games of the year, correct?
more shmups!!
@Witzbold:
arent you in the future over there.know the winning lotto numbers?!?
omega 5 is very fun. if you like side scroller shooter, you will like omega 5
not me. i'll be getting Tron instead. no online multiplayer? cmon. Tron has it, so its guna soon have my M$ points.
Pro: Omega looks a lot like Forgotten Worlds. Which is awesome!
Con: Based on the interview, it doesn't sound like you don't get Continues, and I despise games that I pay for and then never get to see the end of...
(IE Even if I don't have 1337 skilz, I should still be able to play through the game and finish it...and that doesn't sound like the case here, sadly.)
I'm a little peeved that Omega 5 does not support multiplayer on xbox live. I could try to aquire a warm body of the local flavor, but why shoud I have too if I already have distant comrades eagerly waiting for our 4 armed savior and his lady friend.
Two games I'm interested on XBLA on one day? Plus an announcement of Lode Runner? Good times.
Omega 5 get.
NO online coop?!?
I'm off crying myself to sleep :-(
@number9: That's interesting. The difficulty makes it more interesting to me actually. Usually game stories suck balls so there's not much of a narrative incentive to see the end but overcoming a real challenge is interesting to me.
Omega 5 is still alive!
Somebody had to say it...oh and lets all have a moment of silence to hate on Steve Guttenberg... after we finish thanking the gods of Shmup for the bountiful harvest that 2007-2008 is proving to be. I can't wait for wednesday afternoon now, despite the fact I'm going to have to buy more MS pts.
Oh, and to non-HARDCORE gamers: This game isn't for you.
*giggles and returns to horrible beatdowns in Contra 4*
I want MS to hit up IREM so we can get some R-type lovin on XBLA.
Then again I can just buy the games on the J-PSN. :x
crap, I need a 360 :-(
I want to like it but I can't help but notice a few things I dislike about it from the looks of this video.
gotta say i dont have a 360 (ps3 & wii owner), but this i will definitely be playing at my friend's house.
No CoOp ? nevermind.
I'm definitely picking up both :D
The lack of online co-op is amazingly ridiculous. Looks like I'll pass on this one.
Tron is great first time through. Highly recommended, one of the best fps.
The lightcycles will tear your hair apart though.
Omega5 looks like a good game with some amazingly poor design choices. The lack of online coop and the lack of continues kind of ruins it for me. It's one thing to make a game challenging, it's another to make it frustrating. If they decide to make some changes or it drops to 400 points I'll probably get it, as it stands though I'm going to have to pass.
@Witzbold:
wednesday. and I'm working from 5-10
:(
I don't know guys... online co-op is not really a de-facto standard of some sort; it is nice when available. I honestly would never play a game like this with others, I'll just get too frustrated. I remember how anal I would get when playing Raiden in the arcade and some jackass would hop in and STEAL my power ups! FUCK IT ALL!... sorry, flashbacks. co-op isn't really the right way to play this game though it is a nice lifeline.
oh goddammit, I want this so bad. But I just recently sent off my 360 for repairs (yet again, this is the 4th effin' time). This looks reaaaaaaaally good.
NEED MASHEEN BAK NAO! Kmon purol8r...
@Luziphir:
it was design to be appeal to gamers that like ikaruga and such, suppose to be hard.
it's much easier than ikaruga since you have health bar instead of 1 hit kill.
Only local multiplayer? What is this, Wii? Not acceptable on 360...sorry.
TRON?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy right now you have NO idea.
@DaiMacculate:
How dare you sir, Mr. Guttenberg is one of America's finest actors ever!! If you were on my friend's list you would be getting some negative feedback. Ah just kidding but short circuit was good come on now!
I want to get this, but no live co-op is a killer. Plus if only one person from the development team can actually beat it, what chance do i have? And it doesn't seem like you can weave in and out of enemy fire very easily judging from this video
@Johnnyhash: Actually, Short Circuit was pretty good. Its just that Steve Guttenberg wasn't even in the top 5 best actors in that Film. Johnny 5 ranks higher than him, IMO.
@Fyren: You're thinking of Tron 2.0 -- this the arcade game Tron from 1982. This was announced eight months ago. What took so long?
so excited for tron
it was supposed to be out last summer ffs
Graphics look so damn good cool!
looks ok..characters could be way way cooler. Can we have Cotton or Thunder force please!
I understand the abbreviation of shoot 'em ups, shmups, is practical and faster to type. Verbally you're not saving much time there. When the Hudson rep actually said "shmups" my brain froze for a split second. Had to play it back to be sure I heard right. Reminded me of the first episode of "Lucy, DotD."
/wink
That version of Tron looks pretty weird. I think I'll stay with GlTron. WWhat's that about Lode Runner, though? I'd definitely buy a nice 2D local multiplayer version of Lode Runner.
It looks like its is pretty hard to dodge struff in Omega5
the character take up pretty much of the screen.
@L_K_M: Lode Runner: [kotaku.com]
@dv8godd: NICE! Looks a bit like the "high-res" (as in 640x480) Mac version.
@L_K_M: I have that version... "Lode Runner: The Legend Returns" I wish I could play it under OSX, but I don't think it'll run even under OS9 emulation.
Though I'm sure I could run the DOS version just fine through DosBox. :)
Let's hear it for challenging games!
Yay!
@dv8godd: Maybe it'll run with SheepShaver:
[gwenole.beauchesne.info]
I've lost the CDs, though, so I can't try.
@L_K_M: Might be worth giving a whirl on that. I'd totally forgotten about it. I checked it out years ago but it still seemed really early and I just didn't have the time or stamina to get it working in the early dev stages.
Lately I've definitely been eyeing up some old OS 7 games sitting around here.
Thanks for the reminder!
