When we played Mercenaries 2: World in Flames at the Leipzig Games Convention last year, we walked away with the impression that stuff blows up. It would appear that stuff will continue to blow up, as new screens from Pandemic would indicate. If you look closely at the in-game screen shot above, you might be able to pick out one of the things that blows up. Mercs 2 feels like it's already been released for some reason, but it seems it hasn't. Regardless of my confusion about how time flows, a handful of new official screens are in our mini-gallery below.
New Mercs 2 Screens Prove Things Still Blowing Up Just Fine

Yep Michael. When i get a piece of Xbox 360 shrapnel in my ass i'm gonna know who to come to first. Thanks a lot.
My buddy and I are really looking forward to this.
@PapaBear434: I just have a feeling papa bear that this games' release will be overshadowed by some other game.
looks cool
@PapaBear434: can't wait either, any idea when it's meant to come out?
Is it still an exclusive? I thought I heard it was coming to the 360.
I can't wait for this game! Most anticipated game of 2008 for me, even above MGS4 (but that is second on my list :P)
This game looks beautiful and I'll be happy if all I can do is blow stuff up. Wow that looks purty raht thur.
@nolifedopestar: I've heard Q2 this year.
I never played the first one... but can someone describe how the gameplay works?
I also love to blow things up.
Blowing up stuff - Awesome
Blowing Stuff up in Online Co-Op - Beyond Awesome!
@shindokie: The first Mercs took place in North Korea and you had to kill a bunch of military officials or something like that, I don't remember the first one a whole lot. It's a sandbox game with gritty scenery. There was a lot of things to do like call in airstrikes and yes, blow up stuff.
Does anyone remember the secret weapons, god those were fun.
@shindokie:
Its like a 3rd person action shooting game umm think of saints row or gta with a military theme.
@WombatsofWimbledon: The street sweeper and the handheld artillery were awesome.
Looks good, just need to put the deck of 52 back in.
@HigglyPiggly: @rickyyo:
Thank you. When i saw those pics i was thinking about battlefield. THe one on the ps2 since i never had a pc to run games. Seems pretty interesting then. Kill kill AIRSTRIKE!
@WombatsofWimbledon:
Yeah the cheat weapons were the pinnicle of guns in games they had that gameplay breaking balance that Ratchet and Clank's Rhino has.
@WombatsofWimbledon: No,this“s multi-platform,hopes both versions maximize to avoid trolling discussions ^.^
Apparently there's going to be a Mercs comic too.

I dunno if I did that right.
@shindokie: Basically,its like Crackdown minus the crazy jumping and with about ten times more explosions
The first Mercs was really fun, and huuuuuge, both in length and space you could traverse. The gist was to find a bunch of targets in North Korea and take them out to get to the 'top man,' which would be special, fun, challenging mission of its own in its own level. You could accrue money by doing missions and then use that money to call in all sorts of things, from new vehicles to air strikes to ammo/weapons. It was like GTA but with lots of explosions and combat.

And way more hair gel.

somehow, this reminds me of blast corps for n64 but with a way darker theme...
Holy shit did this game get a graphics refresh?!!!
I'll probably end up getting this at some point, if only because it makes Hugo Chavez mad...
is Pandemic making this?
@okenny :):
Yes.
I've been waiting for this game since I played the first one.
Just Cause 2 can go screw itself; we have Mercenaries 2 :D
Mercs 2 will sadly be overshadowed by GTA4. GTA4 will be great no doubt, but blowing everything up will likely double thew fun I'll have with Mercs.
As long as stuff goes boom in a pretty way Ill be happy.
@SolDieR: Fuck that, I'll just get 'em both. You'll never see me out in sunlight for the next 6 months, except to go to college et al.
As someone who enjoyed Playground of Destruction, I've been looking forward to this game for a long time.
I thought this was a sequel to the MERCs of arcade/Sega Genesis fame. LAME!
@SolDieR: GTA4 can never overshadow Mercenaries 2. Not until Niko can call in airstrikes, anyhow.
I will get this game simply because I can level anything I see.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I can't wait to crap my pants all over again!
I think Cpryd said the words I was looking for. That and I really need to carpet bomb EVERYTHING!
There's the Testosterone. I looked but I couldn't find it until now.
Sweet! Glad you guys like the screens! This will be on PS3, PC, 360, and PS2! Enjoy! >8)
Guys check out [www.mercs2.com]
Will get for my ps3 :D. Fuel air bomb FTW!
i loved the first one it is still my fave x-box title. Carpet bombs baby!!!!!
Tanks! Yea baby!
@WombatsofWimbledon: "Is it still an exclusive? I thought I heard it was coming to the 360":
Not exclusive. The 360 is the lead dev platform for the game and Pandemic are porting it to the PS3 in parallel (from the grapevine - the PS3 version might be delayed or might not depending on the state of the PS3 port when release time comes). The PC and PS2 ports are handled by other companies.
Hmm seems like the commenting system is all fubared again. :x
@mx5: Really? I thought PS3 was the lead dev platform? It was announced for PS3 first then about couple of months later, Xbox 360... I'm confused.
I really, really, really, REALLY WANT this game NOW. D:
@alizerothree: That vid was excellent.
@strugglebunny: That's exactly what I thought too.
For those of you who don't remember MERCS, it was the sequel to Commando (a popular Capcom arcade in the 1980s).
Can we not put "Mercs 2" in the title at least? You've just broken this old gamer's heart.
@rentahero1: That was a grand game. Although the characters were a little odd looking.
@Snappywave: "Really? I thought PS3 was the lead dev platform? It was announced for PS3 first then about couple of months later, Xbox 360... I'm confused."
That's been like few years ago ... just a public move :) If you go to Pandemic you'll see like 60 people developing on the X360 and 3 porting to the PS3. But that's not a strange thing and it is pretty much the picture at most multiplatform developers out there - once X360 install base grew, they switched to X360 as lead (bigger install base, and quicker to develop for because of the better tools)
@mx5: Yeah not to mention in most of the game trailers you see the buttons to use objects and such the X360 buttons also. ;D
Also you can check the Pandemic blog videos at www.mercs2.com
You'll see the X360 devkits and controllers on the people's desks everywhere and I doubt you'll have the luck finding even a single PS3 ... ;)
