This DS concept by Gizmodo's Jesus Diaz/3D modeler Phil Nolan is absolutely in no way real, but I'm a bit in love nonetheless. Like two iPhones in the thralls of erotic embrace and spread wide enough for Larry Flynt, their lovechild is a gorgeous, two-tone DS that's not technically inconceivable for Nintendo to release next.
And I really do like the idea of a 16x9 screen on top (even if this image might not hit that scale perfectly, I can't tell). So what if games couldn't take advantage of the screen real estate, since movies and TV shows would look great. What do you think? Hot or not? Hit the jump for another shot.
That chrome DS symbol really seals the deal for me. Yes, I too can't believe that I just typed that last sentence. Hit the link for more shots.

Sexy
I need new pants. That is all.
iphone meets gaming?
sleek, sexy, and doesn't make me feel like an idiot when playing in public. Where do get one :P
OMG!
*drools*
I want now!
My creditcard number is:
**** **** **** **69
shit...if this was out, i would get this RIGHT NOW!!!!
@2SBs: LOL
Is it inappropriate to use the phrase "I'd hit it" when referencing video game hardware?
Pretty pretty pretty pretty . . . pretty good.
That stylus is too large, though.
I'd buy that in a heart beat. Just needs an analog controller nub like the psp.
hmm ... really good looking ... i wouldn't buy a current gen DS ... but if a DS2 like that comes out, i'd sure be interested
iNintendo.
Wow. That would be an instant sell for me.
INSTANT.
Lets get this thing rolling.
Considering how much Nintendo design follows Apple design, something along these lines doesn't seem like such a strange idea.
I know I'd buy one.
A lot of people would pay a lot of money for that, I'd hazard a guess that some would have no trouble picking this up even as a second DS.
I absolutely hate rounded edges. Absolutely with a passion.
Using the Mario Kart arcade game though? Why did the guy think that would be a good idea?
damn just damn
While sleek and sexy, it would just be a step up from the DS lite, instead of a revolutionary new portable. Then again, there's only so far they can take it now. Add web-browsing, and MP3/Video playability and I'm sold!
Hopefully there is a Nintendo exec looking at this and calling up the office "Um...stop the designs we are working on, I just found the finished product...kotaku.com That is the next DS boys"
But am I the only one who thinks this will never happen.
@2SBs: I see what you did there.
that DS concept is pure visual pleasure. If the DS was like that. i would throw away my psp instantly.
I actually wouldn't mind spending about $400 on that machine.
Does that make me an imbecile?
maybe if it looked like that DS players wouldn't look like douche bags in public
wow...that would be awesome. instant buy
It doesn't look very "Fisher Price" durable. I mean, it looks sexy and great, but I can't count all the times I've dropped my various DSes without using every last digit and appendage on my body.
That's 21, for those of you keeping score.
I'd buy one for the price of an iphone.. yeah..
Hah, check out the Mario in shades.
That concept looks amazing. Add in homebrew apps and you'd have a potentially feasible ultraportable.
Kotaku needs to contact Reggie, now!
where's the black stand and red-graphics goggles?
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"
Sorry, couldn't resist. I just watched Robocop last week.
Me likey. I like having the GBA slot, but if it looks that nice w/o it, I'd live.
Looks nice, but a few problems:
The buttons would smash against the top screen when its closed. Having a recessed topscreen might fix that.
The shape might make it a little awkward to hold, especially with the button placement being right up against the edge like that
The hinge seems to be a bit odd, it might work if it is some sort of "floating" hinge but doesn't look too feasible. Plus the length of it seems to make any "L and R" buttons incredibly small...
I don't care what people say... I'd buy that in a heart beat... as long as it's not $500. lol
Hell, if this came to be, maybe it'll play music and be a video player, too.
Only one can hope. But it's just a pipe dream and nothing more.
@Tale: No I would hit that.
I think it looks too much like a PSP. Its not very "Nintendo" if you get what I'm saying. I don't think it would have the same appeal to the Nintendo crowd.
Just my thoughts on it. Fantastic design, either way you look at it.
@Scazza:
Also to add to what Tonx said, it looks really fragile, something the original DS was made for. God knows how many times I have seen a shattered PSP, where as the DS can survive a few drops. Its pretty darn "kid friendly", where as this is a "breath on it and it might survive" kinda device...
That's a DS I would actually be interested in. How about a system that does HD 2d graphics only? Wishful thinking?
I think you've just provided fap material for the tech junkies.
Seriously though, I want that *yesterday*.
that thing would easily cost over 500 dollars, its like two ipod flashes glued together, i could see them going wider screens, but nothing like that
If Nintendo made the next DS like this, I would do almost anything to have one. This would smash almost anything that another PSP could do.
This is a truly fantastic concept.
I could buy that DS.
I think I just wet my velvet pants...
Why can't Nintendo make this? Oh I forgot they only market to the elderly and children under 8. I am not a huge fan of the DS but I would snap this up in a second. Very sexy....
If they looked like that, I'd snag one in an instant. Especially with the bigger screen.
is the PSP and DS had a love child, this would be it!
Glossy plastic in areas where you hold thing thing sucks. I hate that about the PSP. It looks awesome until its been touched, then things get all fingerprinty and you have to clean it all the time. The buttons are also too close to the screen, another problem I have with the PSP (a side smudged screen is even less cool than smudgy face buttons). And why so square? Nintendo hasn't released an ergonomic handheld since the GBA.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd take function over form when it comes to handhelds. I'd rather it be comfortable than look good. It seems most handheld manufacturers have been ignoring this for some reason.
Gorgeous.
It looks like two iPhones mating.
*Throws aside the Zelda DS that he has cared so much for*
DO WANT!
Nintendo is having enough trouble meeeting the demand for the Wii; I cannot imagine them being able to produce enough of these to meet the demand by 2010.
@REGULUS
You must have really greasy, fat, Jimmy Dean sausage fingers. I have never had that problem with my PSP. Granted, you do have to wipe it every now and then but I would rather do that than use a gaming device that looks like it should have " Fisher Price " stamped on the back.
well everyone needs to stop buying the current DS or we will never get an improved version...so get to the boycott already!
It would be a perfect concept if it had the flip and turn like some HP laptops have.
@Regulus: most? there are only really two...and lately? there hasnt been a new system in quite sometime and no the psp slim doesnt count since its the same shape just slimmer.
@Rubix42: You'd be no more of an imbecile than those that spent $400 on a 360 at launch. Of course, given that it would theoretically be a Nintendo product you wouldn't have to worry about it breaking before you got it home. And, at least you'd know from the start that the first party games would be worth it.
@Regulus: I would have to agree the glossy front side of the PSP makes it annoying to keep clean. I wish the front had the same texture as the back.
looks like the original design for psp
Maybe switching to this design will help the DS sell more. It kind of needs a little boost to its sales.
I wouldn't mind having one of those, it would give me a reason to play my DS.
My friends sister broke my DS Phat's hinge...
Lol, Sony execs are probably thinking of the same thing...
