Comments
This list I have no qualms with what so ever. ;D
Btw I MUST have that coin!
Love that last one. Great list. I LOLed at Larry Hyrb.
"Best Use of Ayn Rand Philosophy" - I wasn't aware there was any way to use Ayn Rand philosophy in a good way.
How about Best Preemptive Cult Classic: Zack & Wiki?
Heh, good list.
Silly VGAs and their Mountain Dew.
LOL. I still haven't gotten past the first board in Assassin's Creed. Been playing Blue Dragon and Mega Man Anniversary Collection instead. I already got to jump around rooftops as a superhero in Crackdown. I'll go back to it, but am just not compelled right now.
lol.. have to love the rrod reference.
@Roadkill: Umm, that was the point.
Re: worst mario game ever: you've clearly never played Hotel Mario for the CD-i.
Best/Worst/Best Again Live Kotaku Video: When Crecente showed us Eye of Judgement.
@KaneTaker: Me too. But nowhere near as bad as when I first saw coach K's name spelled out. If I hadn't heard it, I would have killed Krzyzewski.
I like the Gizmodo Cheated Award. Bungie did cheat their fans out of a great campaign.
I'll agree with the GCN GOTY... I don't know how Super Paper Mario was ever originally announced as a GCN title though with the console so close to disappearing from store shelves.
The Gizmodo cheated award made me chuckle. Heartily so.
The rest were just too spot-on to be funny. Yahtzee-style awards, only without Yahtzee announcing them.
Aw, why was the Wii's use of blue LEDs the worst!?
@Roadkill:
It must be possible. Rush did it.
Can someone explain the award PGR4 won? Is it saying that those new ideas that were scraped from the bottom of a barrel should really have been in PGR3 and not used as an exscuse to get PGR fans to go out and buy a sequel?
Worst use of Tubgirl: Kotaku.
Amen, brother. But I think Gizmodo deserves the credit.
We need some commenter created lists.
Worst use of gamerpoints: Avatar: The Burning Earth
Best impersonation of a used car salesman in a keynote speech: Jeff Bell
Best use of cake: Portal
Best "Justify Your Game": Witzbold! [kotaku.com]
I nominate S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as runner-up for Best Engine Missing a Game.
Worst Product Placement in an Awards Show, Brought to You By Mountain Dew: Spike TV VGAs
Spike VGA Awards brought to you by mountian dew everybody!
Sam Jackson walks out with a mountian dew " I love me some MOUNTIAN DEW, watching snakes on a plane and playing maybe a video game, lets bring out the first band who is all jacked up on MOUNTIAN DEW, so they can introduce the first MOUNTIAN DEW sponsered award for best product placement in a game involving MOUNTIAN DEW...but before we get to that, we have an important announcment from MOUNTIAN DEW, everyone in the crowd gets a free MOUNTIAN DEW AND a free MOUNTIAN DEW shower!" *queues the sprinklers to turn on the heart attack inducing liquid*
overboard? not by a mile compared to the placement that night and i only watched 20 minutes =p
I loved Assassin's Creed. My only issue with it is now that I've beaten it, I can't go back to play it again, to collect the rest of the flags, without watching a long ass cut scene.
Seriously. Would it be so hard to give us a save "memory block" that doesn't start at a long winded cut scene that I have to watch for ten minutes before I get on to play?
Then, I never tried the one that looks like "the object," so maybe I'm just an idiot.
For Gamecube GOTY... considering their marketing push for it, they could at least have made the text entry use pointing instead of the D-pad, especially for that part where you have to ask the guy "please" a bunch of times.
Gamecube GOTY: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
What were the particular "Best Straight-Faced Lie in an Official Statement: Microsoft and Sony" statements?
lmfao - those are great.
@soundgarden:
Name a press release from each. It'd be THAT one.
I actually am digging Assassin's Creed (got it for $19 at Best Buy over the holiday break). I'm playing without any of the HUD elements, though. Makes it a completely different game.
lol, I particularly like the Gizmodo Cheated Award and the Best Use of Alcohol at a Video Games Convention Award. :D
@Machines:
I need at least the map. Without some sort of a "You are here" feature, I'm lost as hell...
@dv8godd: Haha thanks for the hat tip there mate. :) Man Im still suprised people go back and remember that story lol.
@dv8godd: The sad part is I read Kotaku enough to get all of those. Good list!
@soundgarden: All of them.
It's Larry Hryb, not Hyrb.
Come on, I love the blue light on the Wii. It distinguishes it from the GameCube.
Best Straight-Faced Lie in an Official Statement: Microsoft and Sony
I thought for sure this would have gone to Portal with some sort of cake reference... but maybe the lies have gotten to everyone here at Kotaku!!
Great list...more "categories" desired
Adorably Cute. Pretty spot on.
@soundgarden:
Would it be when Microsoft said that the 360 outsold the PS3 2:1 in the week of Black Friday?
For Sony, it might be 'the PS3 is the lead platform for developers' or 'multiple SKUs confuse the market' thing (though the latter isn't really a lie, as the 40GB model is the only one we have here).
Really, all PR types are there to spin, lie, etc to make their respective companies look good, so I don't see why Nintendo is excepted.
@Pantsman:
I'd like to know that too.
@dv8godd:
Best/Worst offensive subliminal message found on the cover of a family-friendly game: Super Mario Galaxy
Say it with me. H R Y B.
@PGGB: LoZ:TP came out in 2006.
Best Continuous Basher of a system while writing about it:
Luke Plunkett for PSP .
Best use of a bird on a shirt: Crescente
(should really be lifetime achievement award)
Best Music Game that has downloads to cover's of Rush songs: Rock Band
@Roadkill: Hey, I enjoy Terry Goodkind's Novels even if they are extremely preachy about something I disagree with.
@ballaboy311:
Most Annoying Trend of the Year: Bashing Halo in every thread that even remotely comes close to mentioning it.
Runner Up: Me defending it every time.
Best in game use of a phallic symbol: The tower silhouette at the beginning of Folklore.
What? Tell me you didn't catch that...
@PGGB: That was 2006's Gamecube GOTY. But thanks for bashing in.
@huginn: As Witz and I have said, who has time to game anymore? I'm addicted to Kotaku! :)
@shiwasu: Good one.

Best game pack-in accompanying a paid demo: Crackdown (I bought it for the game, personally... and loved it)
Best console screensaver: Flow
Best "I can't believe I've bought this game three times now": Resident Evil 4
Best use of vampire robot mechs in post-apocalyptic space cemeteries: Lunar Knights
Most unique use of WiFi support: MGS Portable Ops
heh, "Best use of Red Leds=xbox 360"
Lol @ the tub girl fiasco.
@peacefuloutrage: THAT'S IT! That's why I'm not digging on Assassin's Creed that much... I played the heck out of Crackdown earlier in the year, so bounding around on rooftops in AC just isn't quite as fun as Ubisoft was hoping... I have had some fun guard chases, though. I really want to kill the beggar women, though...
that super paper mario could have been an excellent DS game.
on the other hand, super mario galaxy feels like a real wii game, finally, I mean, real GC 1.5 game.
@Roadkill: The Fountainhead is like a couple months worth of toilet paper.
stop with the lists. jesus christ.
@jimb213: The most fun I had with the game was in fact randomly being chased. It was good fun as well.
Besides, after I finished the game, I ran around the cities assassinating people for no reason, especially the beggars and lunatics. Wow that sounds really bad. I only did it because they annoyed me during the missions so much. You know what I mean.
Best game that came as a pack-in with useless peripheral: Links crossbow training
