To: Someone, Anyone?
From: Crecente
We left the family home today heading north through Georgia, Tennessee and finally into Kentucky to rest for the night. My son spent a lot of time sitting quietly in the back marveling at the wonders of Wii in a van. I sat up front game-free working all day via a cell connection and my poor wife drove all day. About 6 p.m. my son, who had been eying a box of Pocky I received for Christmas, suddenly broke the silence by begging me for some "Pock!" I'd been promising him a taste for two days and finally decided I probably should go ahead and give him a stick or two. Looks like I'm going to have to start stocking up on more of those now. He LOVED it.

Don't.
You wouldn't give crack to a crack addict.
Don't give Pocky to your son. It's a dark road to follow.
I should further investigate on this Pocky matter. Right after I acquired world domination.
Pocky were so good until I got diabetes. Sigh...
Now the question is.. just normal type (chocolate dipped)? I've had this strawberry type that was just heaven.
Pocky is just awesome. Try the coconut one.
I agree with Kirbytheslayer. I had a very serious pocky problem in the past. I've been clean for about a year. I haven't thought about pocky in years, especially the strawberry pocky. Ummmm, I'm gonna run to the store real quick.
Happy New Year Crecente!
Yeah, Pocky is some good stuff. But next time you are at an asian grocery store, or over here in Japan for that matter, may I recommend stocking up on "Fran" Its a much thicker and tastier version of the "Pocky" concept.
while you're at it tell me where you get it, I need my fix after ordering and eating $20 worth in a day online and shipping was $10 for 4 boxes, I don't have that kinda money anymore
strawberry pocky is the shit. and i get it from a "all things japanese" store for 50p a box, as apposed to the 60p price of a single candy bar thats not bad value.
yeah im cheap.
*Cackles and methodically rubs hands together* Good good...let the ha-Pocky run flow through you.
I hope by the time you reach Denver that the avalanche threat is over. Have a good trip back. :)

man i wish i could find some pocky locally but i doubt it
I suck at doing link tags. :(
Hmm, sounds interesting. How may I get a hold of some of this stuff? I need a new addiction.
Pocky is scrumdidillyumptious!
@underground_slacker: Yea I never like it either. The original and the coconut are the only way to go.
@SaintAnima:
I'm pretty sure you can snag it at any asian store or anime store.
...Dang, now I'm craving for some pocky. Thanks a bunch, Crecente.
I guess I'm the only one who saw "Pock!!!" and immediately thought of Poertena from "March Upcountry."
I'm an addict. They sell the Jumbo Size Pocky in canada. I get them once in a while, when my sister visits B.C. Chocolate or Strawberry?
There's another product made by Glico (the same company that makes Pocky) which a chinese supermarket near my flat sells. The name escapes me right now but they're kind of like reverse Pocky, instead of a biscuit stick dipped in chocolate it's a biscuit tube filled with it instead. I actually kind of prefer them to Pocky.
Don't let him discover how many flavors there are.... LOADS...

It's chocolate on a stick, folks.
My favorite pocky was Pudding pocky! they had it for a year or so about 4-6 years ago. It was delicious but it must not of sold well in Japan because they stopped making it. It was the best flavor of all of them.
Note: It is also known as Creme Brule/Flan flavor
@Rekno: He might be a little ticked if his dad brings home the Hello Kitty flavor though. :D
@Clushje: That's what I always said.
Then I picked up a box for $2. I said, as I ate it:
"So What? It's chocolate on a stick. I could pass. I don't get the craze."
I put it away, expecting to forget about it, as it had left me underwhelmed. Then, about 2 minutes later, I found myself craving it, and I finished the rest of the box in 2 minutes.
@Kirbytheslayer: Happy Late Old Year!:
That's because the LSD is laced with chocolate.
mmm....Pocky. Gotta get some soon. I don't know anyone who doesn't like em
Is it any surprise that your son has now started down the road of being a Pocky addict?
I'm so glad I live in a city that has Pocky everywhere!
Crecente I should send you a box of the GIANT Pocky. Its just good for a laugh. Seriously.
@Odin:
That would be Pretz....another favorite...mmmm
@Witzbold:
You should send him a box of MEN's Pocky.
Only real men eat that! hehe
remember...it's pronounced "POKE-Y"....not "POCK-Y"....
Green Tea Pocky and Coconut Pocky is what it's all about. Chocolate is a classic tho.
@WasabiJoe:
That is the way most Japanese food manufactures operate. Pretty much everything is a "limited edition." Every Pocky flavor I can think of (minus the regular and Men's Pocky of course) is only on store shelves for a month or two before space is made for the next "limited edition" flavor. Right now I am really enjoying "Winter Pocky" which has this really fine, powdery chocolate on the outside. Also on sale at the moment is "Dessert Pocky." It is bascially a Pocky meal in a box. The average stick of "Dessert Pocky" is about 3x thicker than your standard Pocky.
It really bothers me that everytime I find something I like over here, it is quickly shown the door for the next product in line. Every fast food joint, every convience store, and every candy manufacterer over here is guilty of this.
I had this Pocky-esque snack over here on Thanksgiving. It was the regular biscuit, and it had peanut butter in the middle. At first it might sound quite repulsive, but it was actually really tasty.
And who doesn't love pocky?...Heh...heh...
Does Tristan have a PO Box?
@keiichimorisato: Not too sure if they still sell those. D: Havent seen them in a while.

Dude if you think hes going crazy over Pocky just wait till he gets his hands on "Kinoko No Yama" Mushroom Mountain, its another Japanese candy with like little mushroom shaped chocolates.
The cap part is made of chocolate, and the stem is a crisp cookie. Real good stuff, its my personal fav ever since I was growing up.

*watch that poor blog site get "Kotaku`d" ;D
@Witzbold: I hope I don't ruin them for you, but those cookies look rather phallic...
They sell Pocky at Wal-mart now, which is weird. I noticed it a few months ago and buy it there sometimes. they just have Chocolate and Strawberry, nothing exciting per se, but still fun to get.
@keiichimorisato: Isn't that the dark chocolate type >_>? I hate dark chocolate <_<
@Kaemon: You would be suprised. Dark Chocolate in Japan is actually rather nice. I personally hated it back when I was in the states.
I must try this pock.
you didnt stock up on pocky before you left georgia?! i know of at least two places that would have had a good selection. get him marble pocky. or better yet, the only way to stop a pocky addiction is to feed him koala's march cookies. damnit, glico and lotte own me.
I ate these and was happy until i remember that i hurts to eat sweets, and i need to go to the doctor get my wisdom teeth pulled and check for cavities, which i have a million of :'(. When i go back to school these are the first things im going to buy
@Witzbold: Eh, Well I think a few years back, when I lived near a import store and tried tons of pocky, there was the Mens pocky, don't think I liked it...
I do love the strawberry one with the bits of strawberry in it... hah.
Ahh, he has good taste in snacks.
[Dark chocolate is the best!!!]
@Odin: @keiichimorisato: The biscuit with filling is... Collon. Used to love that stuff as a kid till i found out what a colon was. Slightly different spelling but ugh.
[www.ezaki-glico.net]
Pretz is the fried salty one. They pitch those at adults as a good accompaniment to beer.
[www.glico.co.jp]
Ahhhh
What the hell is pocky??
*googles
the best kind of pocky is strawberry.
@Kaemon: Aw thats too bad. D: Im guessing you would hate the uber uber dark chocolate the y sell here then. XD
I know I cant eat the stuff, its too "pure". My father loves it whenever he comes to visit though.
its not THAT good. I can run and get a pack in 10 mins but I'd rather pick up a toblerone or something. tastes like they're made for the ladies who are worried about their calorie intake.
@Witzbold: Are those at all like Koala March? I had KM's as a kid and I still remember them. As far as pocky goes... Well I'm probably the sole reason that the local Walmart stocks Pocky, I buy a store display literally everytime I go in there.
Pocky is about the most addicting substance known to man. Besides of course those little koala cookies filled with chocolate. Damn, they're addicting.
@orangeclover: Health-wise, Pocky is some of the worst stuff you can eat.
Seriously, it's really freakin' bad. Ramen level unhealthy.
@Anemone: @Phazonmasher: I thought those koalas were just Pocky that they built backwards.
@Witzbold: Sorry to bug you for something so pointless, but I was looking up Pocky, and I found a japanese snack food review site, and they had the most fascinating snack I had ever seen :[141.214.84.74]
They called them "Jelly Cakes"
Just wondering if you've ever tried them?
Haha, that's so funny. I just finished a packet of pocky I got for christmas. (chocolate + almond! Yum!). In fact it's still stuck in my teeth.. haha. awesome.
"peppero" is the original pocky and far more superior.
I highly suggest you scout one of these bad boys next swing around the oriental markets.
