Famitsu is currently hosting some new Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (PSP) and Final Fantasy Dissidia screens. Also available are screens for Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (DS) and Kingdom Hearts: Coded (cell phone). I got a chance to check out trailers for all of these games at TGS and was on the whole not terribly impressed by the latter two titles although Birth By Sleep looks like it will be the best of the lot. Dissidia also looks great as far as the graphics are concerned, but for gameplay, we'll just have to wait and see.
Make the jump to check out a small gallery of screens.

is uninterested.
What is it with Japan and their feminine male heroes? I know it's a culture thng, but COME ON.
What platform is Dissidia on?
I know what your doing Square-Enix. But I'll bite, simply due to the fact Firion from FF2, as well as, Squall and Ultimecia (from the much neglected FFVIII) are being shown predominantly in these recent screens.
Tetsuya Nomura's take on Amano's designs are interesting to say the least.
@Rock-Byron: its on PSP also :)
This is sweet, FFVII:CC, birth by sleep and dissidia all coming ou for the PSP
Cant wait :D
of course birth by sleep would look better from what i understood it was an actual sequel and the other two are like one is all about Roxas which will be entertaining but eh and the others we...a cell phone game lol.
PS: is that the villian from FF9 on the cover picture what was his name..Kuja?
@Raziel3333: Yeah, that's him.
@Raziel3333: Birth by Sleep is a prequel not a sequel.
All of these games (minus coded) look awesome and I can't wait to pick them up.
@blackadvent: They like it, I like it... Live with it :D
I hate the ugly gangsta-beefcake-marines of GOW, but I'm not going on about it every chance I get...
Seriously, the only reason I would want to get a PSP is so I could play a FIGHTING GAME where I could play as freakin' KUJA. That's just too awesome :0
Wow.. Kuja, hes awesome now to buy a PSP
@blackadvent: ...I'm a Kuja fan. I think he's awesome looking. Then again, I am a woman...maybe this is like Ivy from SC 4?
@Ajh: I haven't heard anyone say they liked the new SC4 Ivy so far... I loved Ivy, she was one of the sexiest fighting game characters ever. But know she just looks gross. :6
@Yin: "now", not "know" ^^
I might add that I am a man, and so are my friends... And as far as I know all of us do not approve of the new Ivy.
DUDE! IT'S FIRION AND PARAMEKIA!
Wow, now I need to get a PSP.
dissidia and birth by sleep look good
@blackadvent: I know what you mean. Can we have some normal looking males soon :(
buldge much?
@blackadvent: Whats the american obsession with power armored soldiers?
@blackadvent:
Yeah, no kidding. They all look like they're from 80's rock bands.
@Sailorcancer: Nah, looks like they haven't mapped the codpiece or the abdomen yet. But on the bright side for cross-players, he *does* look like Seymour's younger, prettier brother.
And one can certainly see-more. O_o
@Kyle81:
I know, eh?
The only thing I hear from the excess muscles are "'roids 'roids" and "I WAS CREATED BY A HUGE HOMOPHOBE DESIGNER"
Hm. They both look pretty interesting. So does the DS game.
Not a fan of KH, but Birth by Sleep looks pretty nice.
I am still hoping to see Kain and Cecil in Dissidia, especially after IGN falsely claimed they were in it.
I like the way Ivy looks in SC 4. She has some meat on her, which I think is a lot more realistic than the typical anime-freak anatomy of skinny girls with huge boobs that so often occurs in the genre.
Yeah Americans are all about power armored soldiers and homophobic muscles... like you know..in all those...things? Wait, what?
Just because some don't like one extreme (effiminate males) doesn't mean they prefer the other (beefy neanderthals). I like characters that look stylized but still more or less "normal"
Does Kingdom Hearts have anything close to a coherent plot these days?
Thank god Japan supports S&M outfits in Disney games.
HeHeHehE... Sold
Square-Enix is absolutely churning out sequels to both of these series. That's not all bad but the quality of some of the offshoots has suffered.
Kingdom Hearts started out well, combining FF and Disney in a plot that was actually well-made for a fusion game. But then, as is typical of Squenix, the success got to their head. And now they just. won't. stop!
Please, KH2 was already a butchered version of the first. Don't make it even worse.
Yeah, the PSP is definitely getting some epic support from Squeenix. Crisis Core is fucking phenomenal and will probably become the title that defines the system when it finally releases in the United States in March.
Birth by Sleep looks amazing and if it lives up to the previous entries will be nothing short of the best adventure game on the system.
And Dissidia...man, I've been waiting nearly a decade for Square to do a follow-up to Ehrgeiz. And here it is...the Final Fantasy ensemble fighter I've always wanted.
Star Ocean: First Departure and Second Evolution look excellent. This will most likely be my introduction into the series.
Great stuff all around and making 2008 (and possibly early 2009) look like another great year for the PSP.
358/2 doesn't look half bad for a DS game. Looks okay for a PSP game, even.
I'm still convinced Kuja is a woman. If it has voice acting, then a manly sounding woman. But still a very beautiful woman.
@Yin: Seconded. Breasts that size is actually just gross.
Also, soon they'll just start calling it Kingdom Fantasy or Final Hearts cause its now all merging into one very feminine/kiddie looking game.
this two games will be awesome. I can't wait to play FF Dissidia. KH: Birth by sleep looks great too.
Does 358/2 have some cool significance in Japan or something? Because it sounds retarded.
an oddity. a series that has been on both mobile platforms. Chains of memory and now this for the PSP.
@Dangeresque: I'm a large breast fan my self, And it's not that they are too big for her, it's just that they are a bit misshapened for someone with a cupsize that large.
Besides, they seem to get larger as the series goes on
Looks nice.
I've never realized why everyone thinks Square Enix characters (guys) are overly feminine. To my European heterosexual male eyes they've never really looked too girly or strange. On the other hand every other American game has such macho characters that I can't look at them without laughing. I guess it really is a cultural thing :)
...and of course Final Fantasy characters are much more manly than what they used to be before FF7. Amano's character designs always leave me a bit uncertain about the sex of the character. Not that I mind though.
I would hate to see a marcus fenix looking character summoning knights of the round table. Waving those grotesque arms around in a chainsaw serial killer like fashion.
just so you know, it's probably more accurate to say the final fantasy males look androgenous, not feminine. that's to say, if a female character looked like one of them they'd have a 'male' traits as well.
interestingly (or not) there is a biological significance to the difference between the eastern and western 'hero' stereotypes. i am talking of the difference between superman's chiselled jaw and squall's smooth lines - according to scientific studies women are more likely to go for a one night stand with a 'virile looking' western hero type, but would choose the eastern 'androgenous' male as a life partener... this is due to the perception that the androgenous male is more caring and would be a better father for children whereas the chiseled hulk, while he is 'strong' and 'virile' he is a brute.
now i said women chose these males, but it is quite clearly something all people perceive, whether they know it or not...
so the reasoning, whether it is a conscious choice or just coincidence, behind japanese male heros looking affeminate is that people who look like that tend to be more caring, better fathers, and are thus more 'trustworthy' ... basically we probably will care more about them than marcus fenix (if that's his name).
Hey, does anyone know when Dissidia is coming to the states???
Cut Blackadvent some slack. He's entitled to his opinion.
For the record, I don't like GoW's character design (although the game itself kicks ass,) and I don't like the hyper abstract anime look (although kickass anime exists.)
I also don't like much of video game female character design, both Japanese and American, for the unrealistic body ratios, BUT I am not a feminist. Not even close.
Just because someone dislikes one extreme doesn't mean they automatically hold the other.
P.S. I know everyone says this, but why no Final Fantasy 7 remake? Does Square Enix hate money? It's not like Square Enix has any artistic qualms about remaking games. The word "exploiting franchises" comes to mind in regards to the Final Fantasy series in the last two years.
Oh dear god, just what I never wanted to see. A Kuja-themed pantie shot.
I am a shame to all Final Fantasy fangirls!
@thenino85:
The reason for now FF7 remake has been pretty well articulated by Square Enix folks.
It would cost a lot of money to make the FF7 game people want them to make. And it would not help to grow the brand or expand the market.
They can pump out half assed side stories and the like which continue to sell VERY well despite low quality. Which from a business sense is a lot smarter than trying to fully recreate a previous game with a demand for high quality.
They are still making money off FF7 without having to invest a ton of cash in a full blown remake.
@Lackshmana:
edit "The reason for NO FF7 remake"
Hey, Kuja looks MORE like a guy! Impossible! More importantly, Ultimicia! W00T She'll own any character out there! :P
If they wanted to remake ff7 I think the engine they remade 3 on the ds would work fine. But ontop, they better make an online chocobo racing & gambling scheme. It would be awesome to lose all my gil betting on someone's random chocobo.
