The Tales franchise continues with the second installment of the Tales of Symphonia series. Featuring Tales' custom "Flex Range Linear Motion Battle System" and what looks to be quite a bit of anime cutscenes, Tales of Symphonia will be a Wii exclusive. No release date for the US has been announced yet but the Japanese version is due out in Spring of 08. The video quality isn't the best, but the in game battle scenes still look pretty great. We'll cross our fingers for this one.

Can't wait! Tales of Symphonia is one of my favorite games! Seriously, this is my most anticipated game after Brawl!
Some terrible voice acting in there.
I love the bit where the kid slits his throat with his own collar.
The original Tales of Symphonia didn't have that many anime cutscenes. I'm expecting this one to be the same--the variety will probably be from the title screen video, like before.
Not to naysay the entire game, since I did like the first one.
Nice! Love me some Symphonia. Now all I need is some more of the anime to be released...
C'mon, announce it for NA already!
if the last one is any indication, we'll get this in the US sometime in '09
Quite liked the first one so I'll be sure to pick this one up.
I liked Symphonia, but for me, the Tales games are only fun when played with 1-3 other people. As single-player RPGs, they quickly become boring grindfests.
I'll probably end up getting Symphonia 2 if it comes out in North America.
@Langis: At least you don't spend a bunch of time waiting for the computer to take its turn, or sitting through summons/specials.
Prepare for the Second Coming of Lloyd! One of my all- time favorite games, mostly because of the unconventional names of the characters....
I'm picking up a Wii for this. Tales of Symphonia was one of my favs on the 'Cube.
@ZerozakiIshiki:
The voice acting's about as good as.. well, any other anime-styled Japanese RPG. Actually, I recognise one of the voices in there as being Rie Kugimiya, who's had leading roles in a couple of popular anime series already.
I haven't actually played a Tales game in ages. I never owned myself a Cube to be able to play the first one. Though from what I heard about the first game from a friend, it's somewhat of a simple RPG plot-wise.
Forgive me for the vulgarity, but...
FUCK. YES.
For me the Tales series was fun when it looked good. Running around hacking and slashing with gorgeous characters is what I enjoy about battle systems the most but I guess you don't get that on the Wii.
I'll hold out for the S04 battle system on the PS3/360.
Lloyd is in Brawl, btw.
Lloyd for Brawl confirmed.
This looks great. I just hope that they made it less "kiddy" than the first one, which is one reason why I didnt like it as much as I should have. D:
The new characters look good. Should be interesting to see how they will combine the stories.
If it can beat my love for Tales of Destiny 2 Ill be impressed, since that was one damned fine game with a great story.
i just got my hands on tales of symphonia recently. gotta play it soon. the new tales for PS3 also looks empressive. maybe i'll have to get a PS3 sooner than i thought.
hot. I'm glad to see they brought the vets back! Can't wait to play this!
An RPG? On Wii? Looks like Christmas 2008 comes early next year! Here's hoping they'll double-or-nothing and bring one (or both?) of the DS Tales games stateside as well.
Well this looks promising!
Yay for some Namco love on the Wii!! When do we get Riiiiiidge Racer??
best christmas present ever! even if it is a little late
Looks good. Need a RPG on the Wii.
Looking more forward to Vesperia though. That looks fantastic.
The first one was great, my friends and I spent many hours playing it inbetween rounds of melee. Will get when it comes out.
I don't know how well this game will do with the "casual" centric Wii sales in the US, so I am not expecting a quick localization (could be totally wrong of course).
I figure mid '09 should be a reasonable US release date projection. By then I might actually go ahead and re-buy a Wii for games like this. By then they'll have to have more than a handful of worthwhile titles.
I'll cross my fingers in hoping I don't need to flail my arms to play this with a Gamecube or Classic controller option available. I still haven't finished the first one, but I'll give it another go sooner or later after seeing this.
Everyone knows about the Baldur's Gate games, but Tales Of Symphonia was another of the small handful of games you can usually get a non-gaming S.O. to play co-op in. My wife and I had a lot of fun with this. We'd mostly play together, but occasionally I'd do sidequests or level grind when she didn't feel like playing.
I also think it's one of the best translation jobs I've seen in an RPG; they weren't afraid to "Americanize" it so it wasn't so culturally bizarre, and the voice acting was mostly great.
And of course Sheena is my fantasy girlfriend.
I NEED THIS GAME TO LIVE.
Looks like Mithos and his sister are in the game.. Wierd.
:/ You'd think they would improve the graphics just a bit since its coming out on a new system. And I really hate the high pitched voice of the main girl character. But its a Tales game and I've liked em all so far. Hope it comes to North America.
Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. If Namco leaves us hanging like they do with nearly EVERY OTHER TALES GAME I'm going to hunt someone down.
@beeporama: Newsflash, ace. Americanization is a BAD thing.
Winner Video.
This makes two games coming out in '08 that will make the Wii a must buy for me XD (not forgetting '07 and it's stellar games...hopefully I can find Zack & Wiki when I do buy a Wii)
I've got a lot of catching up to do...
Huh? What? What happened to knights of ragnarossok or whatever it was called?
This game will be made of win and awesome.
MUST HAVE NOW.
loved the first, glad to see returning characters too, but the graphics disappointed me... I loved the style of the first.
I still need to finish the first one on the cube *looks at stack o' unfinished games*.
Not to say that will keep me from picking up the new one.
@masterage: How about you just buy it now, save you the trouble? (I'm still struggling to find Beyond Good and Evil for the Gamecube...)
oh my sweet baby jebus....this is the best news evar!
Loved the first tales of symphonia...you know a game has to be good when you can get behind a hero named lloyd.
@Kia: Unless the game is called Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time... those games wouldn't be half as funny without the geniouses at treehouse
*crosses fingers* I want this game.
@Raynre: There's five copies of BGaE for GC at a local gaming store around my area, no guarentee about the condition.
As for the games on my list...I really can't justify buying a game for a system I don't yet own, and will more than likely still won't own by the time Brawl comes around.
Also, Vista and Nintendo Wi-Fi need to get along better than what it's doing right now...my DS is stranded, and the Wii wouldn't be better off >_< I know of the latest wi-fi patch that's supposed to work with Vista, but it actually doesn't quite work (i.e. kicked off the internet every two hours or so...on a T1 line. Uninstalled it and it works fine again)...
i'm afraid for this game because the in battle mechanics are fairly well sorted on a gamepad... please just make this game GC controller compatible. =)
Sounds like we get a somewhat more... composed heroine this time, although Colette wasn't a bad character. I do want to know what weapon she's using, though. Some of the Techs look interesting, too.
Part of the reason I bought Tales of the World was for Lloyd and company; I really liked ToS. A lot. (And now, thanks to TotW, I need to play whatever game Tear is from. She looks like an interesting character.)
Wii exclusive? Wonky controls and wasted potential for everyone!
No no...I kid I kid...why isn't this on PS2 again?
@jkingsowner: Lloyd in Brawl = WIN.
@Langis: That's true, and probably the reason why I love Symphonia so much, because I played it through the first time with my brother.
From the sound of it (according to the tales.namco.com/forums/ people), though, Lloyd is less than a good guy this time around. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that yet.
@NeoDude0: Tear is from Tales of the Abyss for the PS2, which is also the game where the Flex Range Linear Motion Battle System originated from. :D My first Tales game.
@Aurvant: Every time someone makes a WiiS2 game, God kills a kitten.
@Torgen thinks AAA has lost all meaning: I'm suing you too. I'll see you in court.
Can't wait! It was cool seeing those characters again in a new game, I loved the original. I think I kinda miss the cel-shaded graphics though...
I like the style of the first one better, and the lack of an overworld is annoying, but I'll still buy this for the battle system alone if it ever gets over here.
If it wasn't for Christmas I'd be playing through ToS again right now.
Symphonia is my favorite Tales game, so I'm really excited over this. I'd love to see Kratos in this, although anyone that played Symphonia all the way through knows that it's unlikely we'll see him in Symphonia 2.
@Kia: What about Lunar, Kia? Those are hillarious masterpieces.
It would be nice to tone down some of the annoying "Japanese" relationship tropes and the perv-ness at least a little bit.
