I can't complain. My 46" DLP is one of the more beautiful TVs I've seen, even as I'm allowed to travel around the globe with Kotaku and our sister site Gizmodo, viewing the latest and greatest display technologies on the market. Sure, my setup could use surround sound, but a pair of wireless headphones does the trick pretty well and keeps my wife happy. Life is good; gaming is beautiful.
That was my world ten minutes ago. And then I saw this Batcave home theater setup.
In truth, it doesn't require a $36,000 Sony 1080p projector boasting a 110" screen display or eight motorized leather chairs to achieve its level of awesome. Most of us would happily load up our vintage Gameboys and play Paperboy, just to sit amongst the creepy bats and faux stalactites.
So hot. That is all.

is there a fire pole to drop down into the batcave?
That is massive hot. Five stars. Better than the guy who built a flight simulator in his living room, or the guy who built a perfect recreation of the Star Trek main deck.
Holy Crap! What rapper and/or athlete has that kind of setup? =P
Yeah. But imagine how much the electricity bill in a cave would be.
@def PD: well it use to be michael vicks cave but they cleaned it up and added bats and a big screen to take away fromwhat really happened here. JK
Watching The Dark Knight on that setup cause some sort of space time paradox.
I can't imagine the acoustics being good in that room though.
Nothing like playing a game while hoping bats are not flying in your hair!
That is by far the coolest thing I've seen all day.
Holy Home Theater Batman.
Wait, tell us more about your DLP. I can't afford $36K, but you sound happy with your choice.
I feel quite inadequate now.....
@Monsterbeard: I actually scored a Toshiba model about 2 years ago now. It's only 720p, but it has a really pleasant image quality. I'm not sure that their updates look as good, but I dig a good DLP more than many very respected (and far more expensive) LCDs.
I heard Jackie Chan has his house kind of similar like Batman's with the pole that leads to the garage or something, I dunno but my guess is that its Jackie Chan :D
Even the Dark Knight can't afford 1080i apparently.
crap, I just drooled a puddle over my laptop.
Woah, Mark is married?
best setup ever
This is why I come to this website... to be amazed by things like this. Now I have something to put on next years Christmas list.
I imagine the bat guano would be a distraction after a while...
;)
Correct me if I am wrong, but if the projector was a DLP, wouldn't only have one bulb, not three?
@dynendal: If the walls are made of the right material, they probably dampen noise quite well, which is what I'd want out of my theater system (especially in a space that size).
@HAL9triple0: Yeah, its hard to get the guano stains out of leather chairs.
Hey Mark, I'm still using stereo myself. I love stereo, I think with the right monitors you can get a wonderful stereo field. I've never really been interested in bothering myself with a surround sound setup.
I have to say after about 6 months with a 5.1 surrond system that stereo just doesn't cut it for me anymore.
I have to say that if you want the true experince of a next gen game / HD/Blu-ray you really really, need to pick up a decent surrond system and sit in the middle of it.
I've never been much of an audiophile (the sound system was my first one, and bought mostly on a whim), and to a degree i'm still not, BUT I couldn't go back to straight stereo, I just love my sound setup too much.
i feel so small now
Mark, I think I have a similar model, but mine is 52". It is a great TV (did a lot of research), but, like you said, it is just a TV ...
Sweet nice to see a CRT projector setup (CRTs are completely under rated and can get for cheap). I have a lesser model (Sony VPH 1271q) compared to his Sony G90 (sweet projector btw)
I have some images of my setup at [members.shaw.ca]
@cyberg4: CRTs are completely under rated and can get for cheap
Absolutely! I have one of the 1272's with a 100" screen, and it's sweet.
I was running it at 1080p (using a Moome card) and it was driving it way too hard. 720p is about the best "reliable" quality it can give. But the G90 is a 9" tube, and has no problems with 1080p.

In the right conditions (blacked out room or at night) CRT projectors have awesome colour and contrast (black levels are amazing). I'm yet to see an LCD screen that even comes close.
Wow, how cool is it when a new Batman movie comes out and you get to watch it in there.
Sweet.
Glad you guys like my superhero movie viewing room. You should see the one I use for tearjerkers.
is there faux guano too?
again, masses of money doesnt equate to masses of taste.
@bowl of petunias:
Read the linked article. It's a 1080p CRT front projector.
Re: Mark's headphones. If you game with headphones but don't want to give up 5.1 surround check out Triton's AX360 headphones. ([www.trittontechnologies.com])
I've only had them since Christmas morning but the little time I've put into Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed since has blown my mind. 8 speakers, a built-in Xbox Live mic, and rumble!
I don't care if I sound like a plant, they work amazingly well. Check them out if you can.
p.s. Read Kotaku for 2 years, first post, if that tells you anything.
Those recliners look so comfy right now sitting on this folding chair in my "gaming room".
Now that is a impressive setup. I am now waiting for the superman fortress of solitude setup and my expectations of awesome entertainment setup will be satisfied.
I BET ITS GILBERT ARENAS's.
@Kirbytheslayer: Merry Christmas. Click the + for a gift.:
Electrical bill? Maybe a few dollars for lantern oil :P
If only I were as filthy rich as that guy, what a life I could buy.
A CRT monitor in a cave? Is that some kind of Al Qaeda crib?
