PC action RPG Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is coming to the Xbox 360 in case you missed it, and today Ubisoft has unleashed a demo for the game onto Xbox Live for your playing pleasure. The demo not only features the first map of the single player mode, playable as either a Mage or a Knight, but also a multiplayer map that allows players everywhere to get a taste of multiplayer RPG combat across all four player classes. The demo runs something like 689 megs, and is currently downloading to my console in the other room. Looking forward to the promise of Dark Messiah (hopefully) without the general bugginess of its PC predecessor, which was one of the only games I ever just gave up on playing due to glitches. Also be sure to check out the newly launched www.darkmessiahelements.com for the latest game info and flash-animated flame effects. Awesome!

I wish I could get the updated content for the PC version. I really loved this game.
Interestingly enough, I am interested in online RPG battles
/needs 360 at work
Wow....I didn't think I would be into this game (FPS and all, but who knew you could trade the s in for "sword") but I will be downloading this right after work. I may actually get this......a now sony fans, please begin your hatred.
Hopefully my 360 will be back from repairs soon because I've actually been somewhat interested in this game.
I loved the melee combat engine for the PC version -- if only Oblivion had the same ...
But the rest of the game was kind of a mess. The level design, world textures, voice acting, and story were generally pretty awful, in my opinion. But the combat, oh, the combat ...
I could not even get the demo running at all on the pc but 6 months later it was all fixed up and I had an absolute blast playing thru it. I am definately getting this on the 360. It will be a blast. The demo is great fun.
i played for about a half hour this morning
level design is very open with tons of secrets
i think it's prettier than Oblivion
source engine ftw
I had the PC version, it had issues for certain, but was a lot of fun to play through. The MP was a bit too crazy to be enjoyed though. Hopefully they will iron things out for the 360.
Downloading now. I had high hopes for the series until, you know, it came out and sucked.
Hopefully they fixed things.
@Strangelove: it had some decent platforming too. Those rope arrows were fun.
I loved the PC version minus the bugs, I'll have to try it out on the 360 when it finally hits. Hopefully they just fixed its general glitchiness/buginess, everything else was ok in my book.
Played through it this morning, it's certainly not bad but it needs a lot of work.
+source engine
+unique sword combat
-source engine graphics look a bit dated now
-just feels unfinished
yea a lot of people slagged Dark Messiah, I really enjoyed it and I really didn't have many bug issues. It actually made swinging a sword around in 1st person feel pretty brutal and fun.
[SPOILER ALERT]
Eh, combat was fun. I didn't like the story. You couldn't be good AND keep the hot demoness who saved your life on numerous occasions... which made me angry. Stuck up good woman was all like "So you're EVIL!" and I was all like "NO! This chick in my head stopped me from kicking the bucket ten times over before you were even INTRODUCED into the story! So screw you if you think I'm just going to trade her for a +10 Sword of Demonslaying, you heartless bar-wench."
Yeah... not enough choices in that game... <_<
I really enjoyed the demo. I'll definitely rent when it comes out
@GameraTheGreat: Horray for First Person Swingers (hmmm... kinda sounds like a porno...)
I wanted to get excited about this, but I went to the website... the first one had its flaws and had inarguably repetitive combat (which I still enjoyed almost til the end), and as far as I can tell, this is just the 360 port. Hell, if you go to the weapons section, you can see every weapon in the game, at least the PC version, and its a pathetic selection at best. The PC originals flaws were arguably relatively easy to fix, so Im crossing my fingers that they address them, throw in a little more content, and that the people who missed it on the PC get a chance to pick it up. But if you played it already, I cant fathom a guess as to what would make you play the 360 version...
I wanted to get excited about it too, but I'll have to join the frothing masses and get an XBL Gold Subscription first. I'm not big on multi-player, though...so Gamefly it is i guess.
Hopefully they'll put something in that will prevent players from falling asleep like it did to PC users.
such a disappointing game that looked so great during developement.
Loved the PC single player mode. Never did try multiplayer after the many patches. Have to load this up again...after I get my new computer. It may be Source, but its higher on system gnawing.
The dashboard update prevents me from downloading anything M-rated. YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER MR. GATES!!
Just tried the demo.
I'm coining a new phrase for games like these: Triple CCC.
I never had a problem with bugs in the PC version. But the multiplayer was seriously broken. Kuju sucks eggs.
I hope they sell enough of this to justify continuing the franchise in some fashion.
I like Sword & Sorcery FPS type games.
Great game on the PC, absolutley loved it, don't really know what bugs you lot are talking about, I never really notice gameplay buigs anymore I just consider them a way of gaming life.
@chimp_o_death: ELABORATE!
You have piqued my rural interest.
@chimp_o_death: That's all well and good, but what IS this Triple CCC of which you speak?
Fired it up and I must say it's looking a little dated, like a pretty Xbox 1 game. That said, i couldn't find the look inversion option and turned it off... I'll stick with the PC version for now.
Well, I just d/l'd this and my GF is playing it as I type. I think she played for all of 10 minutes before telling me she wants it. And well, lizy wants lizy gets. So I guess I'm buying this game now! Here's to hoping it doesn't suck.
Ive just played it on my xbox, and by what i can tell...this game needs more time! I know, its a demo. But the game feels very slow and you cant imagine how much bugs/glitches I have found in less then 10 minutes.
Oh and by the way, if you find all the secret items in the level you will unlock a new map to play online.
Gotta say, I never had a single problem with the PC version.
Multiplayer is poop. I am sad.
It wont let me download it bcuz its M rated?? Im 19 and all the family settings are turned off....what gives??
The PC multiplayer was bad too. the only good part about the game is the fighting system, the levels are pretty boring, voices are terrible and the story is a cleche "Who am I?" plot. Though I kinda wish oblivon had the same fighting system, minus that dumb boot.
Yeah no problems on the PC for me either. I played through the game a few times with different abilities and enjoyed myself each time. Maybe it's just my kind of game though.
I played the pc version recently and it's easily one of my favorite games of all time now.
For some reason I only really enjoyed it as the bow class though.
@chimp_o_death:
Holy crap! Triple CCC?! CCCCCCCCC?!?!
Choices
Consequences
Curse words
Cloaks
Crushing blows
Can't think of any more!
Seriously, though, I thought the demo was OK. It is on my radar now, at least. But January 10 is a bit early for me to get this -- I'll be gorging on a Christmas diet of Mass Effect, CoD4, Beautiful Katamari, Ace Combat 6, Ratchet & Clank, and Uncharted. Hopefully it'll drop in price before GTA4 hits (hopefully late April) and I'll be in a drought then.
I played the PC demo a million times, the physics were a lot of fun, it ran like crap on my clunker PC however. Hopefully it's as good, or better on the 360.
Well I just played the demo for an hour and it's terrible. Controls feel clunky and slow. The graphics, animations, and voice acting suck. Multiplayer is a lag-fest.
@Krackatoa:
Lol I did the same thing. Just dumped the good girl when she decried me as evil. Did one of those chest-stabbing animation thingies. It was brutal. I felt bad for a little bit, until I realized she wouldn't be pestering me for the rest of the game.
@Crux117:
Busted!
