The Tekken movie now has a director. Dwight Little has been appointed by Crystal Sky Pictures, and will be brining with him a tradition for excellence in martial arts motion pictures. He directed Rapid Fire, for example. And Marked for Death. Oh, and it's not a martial arts flick, but he also did Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid. Little is relishing the chance to be involved with such a weighty, AAA project, telling Variety:
It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular.Of course it does, Dwight.

What a tag line... "He's a good cop in a bad mood"
The director is a lie!
Hmm the link doesn't work. :(
Of all the games to make a movie from.. Tekken?
Just when you thought DBZ movie was going to be bad.
@IronsUK: Supposedly the whole movie features him scowling at everyone as he walks down the street and losing his temper with waitresses when they mess up his order.
Here's his imdb [www.imdb.com]
Looks like he's directed a few eps of tv shows- Bones, Prison Break, 24
Should have picked Free Willy 2 for the post pic... It's just amazing how they pick up the titles with least plot and give them to people with least talent to turn into a movie. Not surprised at all that video game movies suck ass.
I secretly hope this will be as cheeseball as Street Fighter.
Jean-Luc Van Damme better be playing Gun-Jack!
Wow, that poster is so cheesy it's great.
As for this movie? Most probable that it will suck, which makes me sad.
Well, at least it isn't Uwe Boll, right?
Oh, goodie.
I think they should make a movie based on the Atari 2600 version of Pac-man. It has about as much plot.
"Little is are relishing the chance to be involved with such a weighty, AAA project"
FIX'd!
(minus the "is" i left in because i'm tired)
It might be as good as DOA the movie, who knows.
(also, "Little" is used to mean "Few," as in "Few are relishing the chance to be involved...")
(nevermind)
@bmbnbs: Needs more fail.
;)
Starring Jack Black as King. Make it happen.
Dwight Little has been appointed by Crystal Sky Pictures, and will be "brining" with him a tradition in... Fix it? Aside from that, I'll watch this movie if it turns out to be corny just to laugh at it.
Steven Segal movies give me the lol. I have faith in Little that'll the Tekken movie will do the same.
Although I do actually like Tekken, for the gameplay. I don't think I really care if this guy goes ahead and sodomizes whatever story there exists.
@Dontdrop:
that*
Well it can't be any worse then the Tekken anime. Anyone see that trainwreck?
@Sixtail:
I did, long ago. So I can't quite remember any of it. I just thought I remembered it being good.
oh man Rapid Fire was the first R rated movie i ever saw in a theatre back when i was like 8. Still love Brandon Lee (<3 The Crow).
I've thougth a plot for the movie... Paul Phoenix and his misadventures trying to defeat Kuma!!
Jackie Chan must be Lei.
Steven Seagal as Baek.
No Marshal Law, Bruce is dead.
The man's worked with Steven Seagal: his credentials are above contestation.
Predicting an instant classic here. If he really puts some effort in, it might be as good as Double Dragon, or Dead or Alive. hold onto your hats guys....
@IronsUK: Haha, that was the best thing on the poster.
I hope this will have Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, and Vin Diesel.
So whats up with the badass pic for this post. Is steven seagal going to be a character in the movie...cuz thad be fanfuckintastic
I own Rapid Fire (VHS!). Love that cheesy film XD Don't care much for Tekken though. Brandon Lee's not around anymore to kick ass :(
WHAT?!?!?!!
A CRAPPY VIDEO GAME SPINOFF MOVIE NOT DIRECTED BY UWE BOLL,
ITS ALMOST AS IMPOSSIBLE AS PHANTOM RELEASING SOMETHING!!!!
I don't care what anyone says, Rapid Fire kicked ass. Brandon Lee left too early.
I am even sorry to admit that I own Laser Mission. [www.imdb.com]
But to be on point, has no one learned from Mortal Kombat movies 2 and up, as well as the Street Fighter Movie?
Forget Tekken movie news, I wanna hear about the DBZ live action movie!! BWHAHAHA LULZ...
@leadster618: o.O
As one of the only fighting games to have a plot that is more than just laughable, I find it amazing that all of you want to disgrace it. With ongoing stories, most of which, that are not just randomly tossed together, it gives more of a reason to pit fighters against each other. Hell, almost every fighter besides Julia or Michelle has a story that makes you want to play finish the game with every fighter.
Besides, it really does have some of the greatest and funniest cutscenes ever.
Plus, besides Soul Calibur, it is the only fighting game I can beat other people at. (that's because no one else plays it HA HA HA... fools)
and Wow! I really sound like a rabid fanboy... Oh well, as I always say, cutscenes over gameplay.
Marked for death was an awesome movie.
Of course, I saw it when I was 9, so that might skew things a bit.
/remembers the elevator shaft scene
@horsejacked: I agree that it might have more story behind it, but how does one pick which character will be featured, because to try and make it an ensemble story just waters it down and makes it wretch that much more violently.
Not that Bloodsport is cinematic gold, but it had a good story line, brief character building for minor players, but ultimately focused on one person. It seems to me they should attempt a similar forumula without just completely cribbing it.
Who would you pick to be that one person from Tekken? Paul Pheonix, Heichi, Yoshimitsu?

@zenpoet: Its not too hard. Considering the whole Mishima/Kazama family has been central to the games they could go that route with Jin, or take the "outsider" angle with Paul....Follow the straight martial arts angle out of Hong Kong with Lee and Law (with that other cop, Baek was it?, thrown in)
But yeah, they could even take it as a love story between Kuma and the Panda....
Actually lets check ourselves here guys. The source material for the game isn't exactly triple A stuff and one could also note that the game takes on a humorous approach to storylines. A story that follows maybe jin hworang, xiaoyu, paul, lau,kazyua, and Heihachi might be just a fun martial arts romp. The only thing we can hope for is fighting and fun memorable (yet goofy). If they try to go too serious and fail, or too over the top retarded we could end up with a new street fighter.
Cripes this movie is going to be EPIC FAIL.
This should've been made in Japan, then it at least would've had a chance at getting a good director.
@Parsifal: I believe it could be done correctly, I am just guessing that it won't.
You do make the most excellent point though. Should this be a story about the characters, or just have a great movie about a bunch of people kicking ass?
What is a great
And I was so hoping Uwe would direct this one...
you know what, i give up posting on Kotaku today. Every time i have posted in this thread, i have screwed something up. You will all just have to guess as to what I said after the word "great."
Good night, and good luck.
This is getting more depressing...
I would have them focus on the Mishima/Kazama story with Jin as the center character. After all, he has connections to quite a few of the fighters.
They could also split it up by having Hwoarang as the second character and having him fight Jin. They could cut back and forth between the two and have the Jin/Hwoarang fight 3/4 into the movie, and then finishing it off with the rest of Jin's story.
