Microsoft sold a lot of Xbox 360s in 2007. Halo 3 certainly helped in that little endeavour. But, man, you should wait and see how many they'll sell in 2008. They'll sell even more! Even without Halo 4! Well, that's what Microsoft are saying, at least, Jeff Bell telling Reuters:
We will sell more consoles next year than this year.Blunt, but effective. He also says Europe will be the key battleground for Microsoft in the new year, where aside from the UK the 360 isn't really taking off like MS would have hoped. Almost as if Europeans aren't as interested in shooters and American sports games...

I think that's every company's goal to be honest :)
Those must be some very special 360s.
Isn't that everyones goal? To sell more and more and more. What we should talk about is what will happen once they've sold to ALL! I believe the companies will by then be rich enough to build factories that manufacture humans so that they can continue to sell even more to more people.
@ssjmichael: Agreed.
Also I don't think this is possible without Halo, but that's just me.
...and in other news, researchers have found that the earth is round and the sky is blue.
@Goldwings: Halo 4 2008... Confirmed!
and they plan on using pictures of high school girls with 360s to do it! how dastardly...
You know what's kind of mind boggling? The thought that the DS hasn't seen their best year yet.
Chick on far right having trouble reading the cue cards it seems.
You pump out a barrage of great games like in 2007, that will surely happen MSFT!
MS going to start doing commercials like Herbal Essence in order to appeal to the female gamers? Now that could boost their sales.
Time to start pumping out the heavy hitters! Gears 2, Halo 4, Bioshock 2, and Mass Effect 2! Wait...those are are shooters. >.>
@Witzbold: Tracy seems to get the idea.
@Baff:
Man those Herbal Essence commercials were so damn awkward! I swear, I think my mom must have thought I was watching porn everytime one came on.
@wayneofspades: No she's just having trouble holding hers up because Xbox is hueg lol amirite?
I apologize for that.
I'd get the girl on the far left pregnant.
Jeff Bell is a man of few words.
@Gouki4u:
Actually the 4 girls are symbolism for the 360's best known feature:
Red..Ring..of..Death!!
(kidding of course)
Wow, Bell made a comment about the Sony brand being a huge challenge for the 360 to overcome in Europe, and a comment about third party developers not sharing the Wii's success... and you chose to focus on the least interesting thing he said.
Which of the three companies thinks they WON'T sell more consoles next year than this year? Now THAT would be news.
@ssjmichael: Kidding because the ring is only 3 lights? yeah.
@Blind_Evil: See how only 3 girls are lit up? Amirite?
@Witzbold:
She's a nonconformist!
@J-Fro: Known for such words as "dog" and "brother". You guys should look him up on the Major Nelson interview up on live last week.... scary face.
girl in the center has a muffin top :\
The four girls in the photo fully endorse the 360's rumble feature.
Maybe it should have read, "We need positive press. Here is a statement to get us posted on the enthusiast blogs now that we realize the Halo 3 juggernaut didn't kill Sony like we thought it would. Plus that marketing was really expensive and we need some free press."
Or, Perhaps it should be, "We want to make an overly forward looking statement so that Wall Street raises our stock price so I can sell my stock options at a higher rate before it tanks when we post our sales figures after the holiday shopping season."
I bought a PS3 and wii for many reasons. but the biggest one is RPGs! I love RPGs. All the 360 has is shooters, shooters, and just shooters. and it's obvious Europe (and the rest of the world) doesn't give a crap about American Football.
@remanance: Banjo Kazooie 3! Oh wait that's 2009 D:... you taunt me so Rare... you taunt me so...
If enough of them brick within the next year, they could very well sell more consoles without the need of Halo 3.
Isn't that what usually happens with every console until the generation is just about to end? They sell more and more each year then they make a new one and lose lots of sales (or not if it's the PS2).
@vine: Yes for your first idea.
No for your second idea. The 360 could completely tank next year and it would barely touch MS's finances.
@54. Lol. My apologies. :p In 2009, I'll eat my words...Unless FFXIII or Mass Effect 2 comes out late 08...You won't see me at all then.
IMO, the PS3 is gonna sell more than 360 next year, which is going to sell less. More and more of those PS2 fanboys are finally getting money for a PS3, and they're the kind of people who want a PS3 just because it's a PS3. Games are an afterthought (although they should have a decent selection to choose from that doesn't involve all shooters.)
I don't think Eurpeans really hate shooters it's just that when there is a shooter, *cough WW2 games Cough* it's always an American. Where as the Europeans (or any other place on the globe) are practically non-existant or plain dorks/idiots.
Here's hoping for: Call "Eh" Duty: Canadian Force or Cricket Extreme :p
@Mit: With that selection of games, isn't everybody pretty much a PS2 fanboy?
i could defiantly see this happening especially if 360 has another price drop
Tracy looks like she's expecting a "ship" to dock in her "port".
What Microsoft first needs to do is to stop having so many different 360 bundles; all you need is one! Then drop the price all the way down to $249.99. I guarantee you that you'd see sales shoot through the roof. And then if they can get it down to $199.99 by next Christmas...
i know this is going to make me sound like a fanboy.
but there is NO WAY microsoft sells more systems in 2008 than in 2007.
no WAY.
i think the 360 has peaked.
@Goldwings: Lower prices and more games will sell more systems. You don't think GTA IV is going to sell some 360s? The Premium or Pro if you like will probably drop to 300 a couple months into next year, It might hit 250 before next Christmas if they can get costs down enough.
Well it's pretty much a 'Duh' statement. Of course companies want to sell more than previous. That's the goal. And consoles usually continue to sell more and more throughout their lives as the price drops, more games come in, and more people hear about it.
I think Microsoft's big goal is to shed that 'nothing but shooters' outlook from a lot of mainstream gamers, and bump it's price down a bit to battle for lowest pricetag.
Price Drop + GTA IV = boatload of consoles sold.
@superbeast1370: Yeah, you know Blue Dragon, Lost Oddesy, Mass Effect, Oblivion, FFXI, Eternal Sonata, and Enchanted Arms are all shooters.
Seriously, they just need to drop the price to $9.99 and bundle in the HD-DVD player and about 50 games and release about 9,000 more games and make it pink and...
Its so simple, I don't know why they never listen to me...
Those empty 360 boxes must be so heavy.
@superbeast1370: Are you joking? The Wii only has one RPG on it with not a single one coming or announced (not anything press-worthy anyway)... the 360 has 4 right now with Lost Odyssey in 2 months and 5 others announced (6 if you count Too Human) with 3/4 of those other 5 coming out next year and the PS3 has 1 with 3 more announced with either all 3 of them or none of them coming out next year. These are just exclusive things, no multiplatform stuff.
I don't have anything against any of the systems but I hate it when people generalize like that. Also @that other guy: How the hell do you categorize Mass Effect 2 as a shooter instead of an RPG?
@joelface: You're right, it does. What's your rationale for this claim?
what awesome game exclusives are going to come in 2008 for the 360 that will WOW the European market.
@GinoKing: And we all know that the PS3 "Has no games" as well. -_-
Oh wait...
In all truth though, you didn't name too many good exclusives. *Note I said "too many".
Well it's an easy goal when you have a system that breaks as often as the 360, yet is popular. People have to buy new multiple consoles in order to play games...
*sigh*
