I'm a sucker for holiday themed timed events and downloadable content, so Sony releasing an add-on pack for Folklore replete with Christmas-y outfits ensures I'll dedicate the hardware space. I may even run out and buy Folklore at some point! Yes, it's that enticing. The details on main characters Ellen and Keats holiday get ups are at the official PlayStation blog, but for those unwilling to venture out of the Kotaku fort, the deal is this—a snow bunny outfit for the lady, a fantastically and fashionably ironic reindeer sweater for the gentleman.
In addition to those the new togs, a new quest for Keats dubbed "Holy Night Visitor" and a new Folk that goes by the name Grab Bag—it's a gaping mouthed present with legs—will also come with your download. Not bad!

Ya, I stumbled upon it while browsing the shop today. Didn't know about the mission and that Keats got a new outfit though. Then again, I did nothing but download and install it cause I can't get myself to play Folklore again.
What is he doing to that poor ... animal?
Oh, btw this is the only PS3 game I want to play :(
haha thats great.
Did the PS Store already update today? I haven't been able to find any of today's new content yet...maybe it hasn't updated over here on the East Coast yet or something, or maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.
Even so, it's Folklore free stuff, so I'm down. I love that game.
@Archaotic: It "updated" for the UK, that is Europe, so you should have been updated long ago ;P
@Achaemenid:
I just checked the Store about 15 minutes ago after I did the system update and nothing new was up yet. =/
Ever since "Christmas NiGHTS" I've always been a fan of timed/holiday content.
The content *should* be arriving for North America tomorrow, but those in Europe may already have it. Unfortunately, my PS3 is far far away!
Wouldn't this be part of the U.S. PlayStation Store's typical Thursday update?
Can anyone in the States confirm it's already on the PSN?
how sweet!
Still havent got round to finishing folklore tho, hmmmm
@McWhertor: I think my PS3 hanst even been manufactured yet...
@Nightshift_Nurse:
Again, I'm in the US and I just checked a few minutes ago. It's not up yet, but I figure it should be up with everything else around 6 or 7 EST, as most PSN updates tend to be.
So once it's updated, how can you switch back to normal character models?
@Archaotic:
6 or 7 EST TOMORROW, sorry. For some reason, I've been thinking for the past hour or so that it was Thursday today. My bad.
@McWhertor: Woah so Europe gets something before NA. I feel so special :)
@Archaotic: Nevermind, sorry :)
@Achaemenid:
Actually, Europe's been getting ALL the Folklore content before the US for some reason. You guys have had several DLC packs already, whereas I think we've only had one or two put up. Maybe it's because the game's set in Europe...I dunno.
The PlayStation store always updates on Thursday, in the US.
Aside the other gifts Sony has given us this week (PSone playable on PSP remotely, Internet Radio, and Folklore outfits), I wonder if we'll get anything else... last year they gave us GTHD, maybe this year we'll get GT5 Prologue Demo?? One can wish.
@Archaotic: I didn't even know there was DLC for Folklore, let alone this one.
@Godstar:
Japan got like seven or eight DLC packs with alt-costumes for the heroes and a new Folk or two for each one, as well as bonus quest paths and such.
One of Keats' alternate costumes is a total Kamen Rider reference, which is hilarious.
Europe seems to have been getting the DLC packs at a more reasonable clip than the US is getting them, for some reason. I really don't know why though.
@dabu:
There is a menu option to choose which outfit your character wears.
@Archaotic: Yea, there's a crapload of Folklore DLC on the European store. May I ask your PSN ID btw?
@Archaotic:
Because most US customers would not pay $2.00+ for a couple of side missions and a new Folklore/costume.
Japan is huge on the random downloadble content. Look no further than IdolProject or Rumble Roses XX for "rip me off" character and items.
Free stuff + good game = WIN
@Archaotic: That Kamen Rider pack came out a few weeks ago in NA.
The new Santa outfit is awesome
@Chewbenator: Oh, btw this is the only PS3 game I want to play :(
It's not a bad game, but does get repetitive. Sort of like AC in that respect.
Personally, there are much better exclusives on PS3. I'd buy Resistance, Motorstorm, R&C, Uncharted, SSHD or Warhawk over it.
Still, free content FTW. I downloaded it last week, but have been playing PC and the Burnout demo.
@Achaemenid:
Same as my Kotaku username, actually.
@LostToys:
And Europe WOULD pay the money?
@creid:
Yeah, I was gonna get that one before I realized I was out of cash. I'll get it later, heh.
Wow, that was a lot of responses in one post.
This is the game where you 'waggle' things until you win right?
No, you fight things with your "summoned" monsters. You then do SIXAXIS controls to collect the soul. Each soul requires a different motion, though the weaker souls require a single jerk.
Oo, Folklore DLC! On a side note, has anyone downloaded extra quests for this? Every time I check for DLC it says there is none.
@Archaotic: Cheers :)
@7ucky: No I didn't download any, as mentioned previously though, on my marketplace (European one), there's an awful lot of extra quests (...).
@McWhertor: Dewdz! Don't forget to pick it up if you don't have anything else to play or are not busy. I bought it just last weekend for a sweet $40. It's a great time killer, especially for me, since I'm all tired out from playing the all the recent shooters.
Oh, this news makes me want Folklore even more! I love when games offer extra holiday content and/or seasonal events to look forward to. It helps keeps things interesting. I hope to see Final Fantasy or "Tales of.." games do this sort of thing in the future. It would be fun to get alternate Halloween costumes for your party members, or new holiday-themed areas to extend the life of the game. It's common in MMORPG's, but I don't see why it can't be a standard feature in regular RPG's, too.
Folklore was fun and I'll download the pack because it's free.
Than someday after I see enough good DLC packs, I'll play through it again.
@Grocerspride: That's supposed to say "Then" not "Than"
Oh, and I wonder if they'll do Home integration for this game because it's a Sony game. I'd like to see some achievement trophies for this, they would probably be really creative and artsy.
I loved the Folklore demo (first PS3 game where I though the six-axis thing actually added to the game) and this makes it all the more enticing. Please 100+ people who received my Christmas Wish List this year with the PS3 conspicuously placed in the top spot, put a PS3 under my tree this Christmas. I miss that console.
You know what's weird? I liked the Japanese demo of this. I really liked the European Games Convention demo of this. Then I got the full game and... nothing. For some reason I had just stopped caring. Shame though, it does make good use of the motion controls. One of the few that does
@7ucky:
I picked up a 2 mission 2 costume bundle on the US store two weeks ago I think.
Anyhow, great game FREE stuff count me in! Free is my favorite number!
Nice, I just won this on eBay, but still no PS3 in my house. So it's officially my first must-have PS3 game. Have to borrow a console from a buddy...
this is one very cool new thing to come to gaming since downloadable content emerged.
i hope more and more games take the hint, and release content like this.
i once imaged how cool a Halloween themed GTA4 download would be, next halloween.
partly it would add halloween-costumed pedestrians, and maybe one or two hallowen-themed weapons.. pumpkin-launcher, or something...
halloween sound effects, and always nighttime-mode turned on.
something like that.
seems like it would be funnn!!
<------- Can you tell I love Folklore?
Woot! I'm glad to see we're getting the Christmas update. Who knows, maybe the US will get the Christmas pack and the third content pack that Europe already has. :)
@Chewbenator:
Wii much?
