2007 hasn't been the best of years for EA. Sure, they secured the services of a Mr. Peter Moore, but they also just saw their position as the world's #1 third-party publisher snatched by Activision. There are many reasons for their current...malaise. The biggest? They just didn't think the Wii was going to be as big as it is. EA boss John Riccitiello:
[The last transition] was tough because we typically have two to three platforms and a five year period... One of the biggest challenges, of course, was that not a lot of people anticipated the success of Nintendo that they've shown with their wand controller and their Wii. That got ahead of us a little more than our expectations.Doesn't say much for EA's capacity for forward-planning that they somehow missed the Wii hype train.
