That's the question Ernest Adams, stock-holder, long-time developer and former EA staffer, is asking himself in a piece up over at Gamasutra. He argues that EA have been on the decline in recent years, and that as a result they're in the midst of a massive change in the way they do business. If they screw it up, he ponders, they might find themselves up the proverbial creek sans the proverbial paddle:
...the company can't afford to get sloppy; with what it takes to make a triple-A title these days, a major flop could really hurt. If I were Riccitiello, I'd worry less about efficiency and more about quality. Inefficiency hurts right now, but a reputation for poor quality will hurt for years.
I think he meant a reputation for poor quality has hurt them for years, but on the whole, Ernest, we get your point. EA are focusing more on original IP, and that brings with it risks, so if Army of Two and Spore tank, EA might be in trouble. You better sell, then, Ernest. SELL! SELL!
