I finally got around to posting my idea about Kotaku's Video Game Club, it got a huge response, which was very nice. Reading through the 300-plus comments, I have some rough ideas of how I think I'd like it to work.
I think initially I'd like to focus on gaming classics, both because they are classics and because they are cheap. I think I'll hold a weekly or monthly, or something in between, meeting of readers in one of our Campfire rooms. It will be a moderated discussion that will be moderator-driven discussion about specific topics. Then we'll create one or several posts about it so the rest of the readership can participate and continue the discussion. I like this system because Campfire limits users and that will allow us to keep the discussion focuses on relevant topics and I figure once there's a big base of discussion going, opening it up to everyone will run less risk of trolling and off-topic stuff.
The question now is how often and how we should go about selecting who gets into the campfire.I'm thinking bi-weekly and maybe first come, first serve.

My son is now a total Pokemon addict, he spends dinner waxing philosophical about the differences between the furry little bastards and even demonstrates the way the egg grows with his hands. He told us at dinner tonight that he wants to be a Zoologist and tend animals in a zoo. He wants to do this not out of any great love for zoos or, I suspect, animals, but because he is so smitten with Pokemon. I am, in a word, disgusted.
