The NPD Group has released its sales data for April, a month that saw Nintendo dominate hardware and software sales charts. The company's Nintendo DS sold a staggering 471,000 units, beating out its console sibling the Wii which racked up monthly sales of 360,000. While DS sales were down from the previous five-week month, Wii sales were noticeably higher.

Sony's PlayStation 2 continues to lead the company's hardware sales with 194,000 units, down considerably from the month prior. PlayStation Portable sales were up, though, pushing 183,000 hardware units. Microsoft's Xbox 360 trailed the PSP, seeing a decreased 174,000 units sold.

Similar to March sales data, the Game Boy Advance continued to outsell the PLAYSTATION 3, with Nintendo shifting 84,000 handhelds versus Sony's 82,000.

On the software side, Nintendo's Pokemon Diamond and Pearl took the top two spots for the month, selling a combined 1.75 million copies. The publisher also saw massive sales of Super Paper Mario and Wii Play, which checked in at spots three and four for the month. Games from Activision and Sony comprised the rest of the top ten.
