Crackdown Showers Gamers With Downloadable Content

    Crackdown Downloadable Content

Team Xbox have got hold of some info on the upcoming downloadable content for Crackdown. Oh, sorry. Did I say some? I meant more than you can possibly handle. Think I'm exaggerating? Check it:

  • There will be three updates. One is the regular old title update, which will fix some/most of the game's little niggles. One is called the "Getting' Busy Bonus Pack", and will cost you. The other is called the "Free-for-all" pack, and is...free.

  • The free pack is basically a debug mode. You can set your own character's attributes waaay over their current limits (ie KICK IT UP A NOTCH), place items and vehicles on the game map and give yourself unlimited ammo. You can do all this from within the game, too, a pop-up menu available without having to pause it.

  • The free pack also gives you access to vehicle impounding at the Agency Tower garage, which acts just like the securing of weapons at supply points did, but with cars.

  • The paid pack gives you three new vehicles. You get the buggy shown in earlier screens, as well as an Agency Pursuit Vehicle (open-top Batmobile) and the Agency Armoured Vehicle, which is basically a tank.

  • You also get an expanded street-racing setup and four new weapons, the pick of which is the HRX Harpoon gun, which fires spears which will impale criminals against buildings or vehicles. You also get a cloaking device, which takes you off the radar and leaves you barely visible.

  • The paid pack also gets you four new race/game modes, like Rocket Tag, Stockpile, Checkpoint Chase and Max-Ability Rooftop Chases.

  • The new content brings with it seven new achievements, clocking in at 350 achievement points (or, to be more precise, 100 come free and the other 250 are available with the premium pack).

  • Finally, the title update stuff fixes some issues like making stunt rings more visible, making orbs easier to find by increasing the radius of their audio cues, better camera views when you're driving up walls and the ability to shoot at tighter angles when leaning over a balcony.
  • Best news? If you're too stingy to fork out for the premium pack, so long as you're playing co-op with someone who has, you'll have access to all the shiny new toys and features.

That's one hell of a load of DLC. Granted, most of it looks like stuff that was intended for the final game but didn't make it, but since the game was so fab anyways that's a moot point. The paid stuff sounds good (of course, that depends on how much they charge for it), but even the free update blows away most other game's premium content.

No word on prices or release dates, but that can't be too far away.
