    PlayStation Eye Has Ears

Over at Newsweek, N'Gai had the chance to sit down and share a quiet moment with Dr. Richard Marks, the man behind the EyeToy and now its successor, the PlayStation Eye. It's worth reading because it take the blahblahblah bullet points of the initial press releases and explains what each new feature of the camera actually means.

For example, the fat mic: it's for crystal-clear voice recognition. Not only will it allow you to use voice in a game without the need for a headset, it will allow multiple users in the same room to chat without headsets since it can listen in specific directions. This is a feature which Marks thinks could be the most important aspect of the camera. Moreso than the actual camera. PlayStation Ear, then? Doesn't have the same marketing pull...ears just aren't sexy.

Videophiles will also find some stuff about the compromise between framerate, picture quality and light sensitivity irresistable.
