Games need action. Being a mobster isn't about action. It's boring! Just ask crime writer David Fisher, who was approached by Acclaim to create the most realistic mafia game ever produced. Fisher's response:
There's not enough shooting in that world... Clearly you can't be realistic...
The result? Made Man, a game with lots of shooting that lets players take each step necessary to become "made." Fisher, who's covered the mafia extensively and even co-authored books with mobsters, says the focus was more on story-telling and creating an emotional connection with the player.
Aside: My great uncle was a tailor. Not just any tailor, but Al Capone's tailor. And not Al Capone's tailor when the gangster in Chicago, but when he was suffering from dementia and living in Florida. My great uncle's thoughts on Capone? "Nice man. Always paid on time."
