The news that the PAL PS3 is going to "support" roughly 72% of all PS2 games (bear in mind only 44% of PS2 games will actually run normally on the PS3) released in the region is good. Good, but not great. Why the downer? Why I gotta rain on this parade? Because a look at the list of supported games has some pretty big holes in it.
Look at both the PS2's all-time best-sellers as well as the more noteworthy recent titles, since they're the ones people are most likely going to turn to while the PS3's catalogue is so wafer-thin. The news, PAL users, is not so hot.
In the hazardous "Should play on PLAYSTATION 3 with noticeable issues" category are the following:
- SingStar. Every last version of it barring the most-recent, Anthems.
- FIFA 06 & 07
- Final Fantasy X & X-2
- Canis Canem Edit (Bully)
- Okami
- GTA: San Andreas
- Pro Evo 4, 5 & 6
- Devil May Cry 2 (don't sweat, 3 should run fine)
- Jak 2 & 3
- Need for Speed: Carbon
-
After the jump? The games that aren't on the list at all. Which means they don't work. At all.
These games currently won't run on your PS3.
- Metal Gear Solid 2
- Gran Turismo 4
- Jak 1
- All Ratchet & Clank games
- Guitar Hero I & II
- Silent Hill 3
-
This is the European launch, and SingStar, FIFA, Pro Evo and NFS are borked? Geez. Guitar Hero not working isn't exactly great news either.
And seeing as we shouldn't hold our breaths for that list to change anytime soon, it's news we're stuck with. How you like them apples, PAL users?
