Developers Cheyenne Mountain have announced that they've been sneakily working on a Stargate MMO, Stargate Worlds, for a few years now, and have just kicked it up a notch and moved into full production.

Drawing on seasons 3-8 of the series, they've got the go-ahead to use most of the show's art assets, so expect authentic costumes, weapons and silly man-tiaras. Currently they're predicting a release sometime in 2008.

As for the gameplay it sounds like standard MMORPG fare, with levels, PVP, blah blah blah blah. Look, I know a ton of people like their Stargate, but this thing has no chance. In hell. Going down the "traditional" MMORPG road just gets you run over by WoW, regardless of how strong your licence is. And Stargate just isn't that strong. Luke Plunkett
