    Lowenstein On Lowenstein

Speaking to Next-Gen about his impending departure, ESA boss Doug Lowenstein had some (well...more) choice words to offload as he sails off into the sunset:

    • I could certainly tell you that I tried to lead the ESA with integrity, with passion, and hopefully with an articulate and persuasive message, but it's really up to others to judge whether I succeeded or not.
    • I guess more than anything else, [I hope people think] I fought resolutely and with passion and conviction to preserve the constitutional creative freedom for this industry to create these great games and great entertainment experiences.

If I contributed to that in some way—in some way if there's a developer ten years from now who's doing something incredibly brilliant—if I deserve any amount of credit for that, that'll be something I'll be very proud of.

Doug, thanks for the tips, but like you say, it'll be others who determine your legacy. Dropping hints won't get you anywhere. Anyway, tough as this sounds, as it stands you're a lot more likely to be remembered as the guy who only grew only grew a pair when he had one-and-a-half feet out the door.
