Acclaim's has just launched the open beta for their massively multiplayer martial arts extravaganza, 9Dragons. The game is set in ancient China and puts you into the role of a wandering adventurer seeking martial arts training. What's interesting is that the game will be completely free to play once launched, supported by in-game advertising. In ancient China. Why does the movie Kung Pow come to mind?

While I haven't played the game yet, but Earnest from Destructoid seems to think that it doesn't entirely suck, and you've really got nothing to lose but some bandwidth and hard drive space. It looks pretty and doesn't cost anything, so might as well give it a go! Michael Fahey
