With Gears on the shelves and the PS3 still months away, you'd think Microsoft would be laughing themselves all the way to the bank in Australia this Christmas. And yet...they're not. Australia has surprisingly (considering Nintendo's atrocious image here), fallen in love with the Wii, still loves the PS2 and is...well, not loving the 360 so much.
Microsoft slipped a press release through GfK (Aussie sales charts types) boasting that the week ending 13 December was the 360's "highest grossing week of console hardware sales in Australia since it launched in March". That's...great...but what does it actually mean?
The claim is based on total weekly sales figures of about AUD$2.6 million. That works out to be around 4000 Premium Packs (nobody buys Core Packs, not even here) sold in the week. 4000 in a week is hardly something to crow about (it's not even half the number of PS2's sold), and must be well short of Microsoft's hopes, wishes and dreams for their last Sony-free Christmas. Still, you gotta spin something, right?
