    Localization Curse Cuts Both Ways

    eToychest's man-in-Japan Ryan Winterhalter is sick of it. Sick of all the whining, the complaining, the gnashing of teeth Western aficionados unleash whenever some obscure Japanese game receives a sub-par translation upon reaching foreign, English-speaking shores.

    The thrust of his argument? That Japanese gamers get it a lot worse. Few West-to-Japan games receive anywhere near the level of localization Japan-to-West games do, with English-language menu options and crappy subtitles a common obstacle. Even taking into account the fact most Western games don't go down too well in Japan, he's still got a point; for all the fury over Dead Rising's small text, at least it was in a language you could understand. Imagine the reaction if it had shipped with tiny, unreadable Japanese subtitles.
