1972: Atari releases the original PONG arcade game. After one night in a bar, the unit was so full of money that change was literally spilling out the coin slot. Before PONG's incarnation, the public had never seen anything like this before. I can't imagine someone's reaction the first time they realized not only could they change a channel on a television, but that the channel could be manipulated and controlled.
So let's all raise a glass to PONG, because even though most of us don't play the game on a daily basis, we are indebted to it eternally (or at least until we die and learn that videogames don't exist in heaven...unless you consider the harp a videogame...maybe HarpHero or something...and it will divinely suck).
