EA's CFO Warren Jenson laid out what they believe the launch numbers for the Wii and the Playstation 3 will add up, and in a surprise to no one, their numbers don't jibe with Sony's.
We're thinking that with PlayStation 3 in North America, the [2006 shipment] range is probably 500,000 to 800,000. If you take the middle of that range, that's approximately what Microsoft sold last year on the Xbox 360.
Pretty much the expected result there. Sony's own projected figures have steadily declined due to parts shortages, development issues, and the original number being an utter fabrication.
EA says the Wii will be much more readily available, with upwards of 1.4 million consoles in North America by years end, which just goes to show you that creating consoles with parts that are readily available is a good plan.
