So how does PLAYSTATION 3 pricing work in Japan? The 20 GB model is listed at 49,980 yen (US $418). And the 60 GB? Well, Sony has declared that at "Open Price," meaning retailers can charge whatever they can get for the console.
*Shop owners rub hands greedily*
For my reserved console, I have no clue what I'll be paying, and I'm dreading being hit with some outrageous pricetag like 800 or 900 bucks. Kotaku tipster Ben spotted the first retailer to publicly announce 60 GB pricing. Know what? It ain't so bad.
Retailer Momotaro Ohkoku is listing the 60 GB version at 62,800 yen ($525). The site states that if there are too many pre-orders, it will have a draw, so it's not first-come-first-serve and no guarantees. I was expecting the worst, but this price isn't so bad. Of course, my pre-reserve is at a totally different store altogether. Fingers tightly crossed other Japanese retailers follow suit.
60GB Priced [Momotaro, Thanks Ben!]
