With a remake and a fistful of sequels, you'd think that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre would have enough buzz to merit more than one video game cannibalization. You'd think. Siliconera provides a peak at what is apparently the only Texas Chainsaw Massacre game: The one for the, get this, the Atari 2600.
The point? You're Leatherface, and you're out to saw people in half. That's pretty much it. Random obstacles like fences, tumbleweeds, cow skulls and wheelchairs make things tricky for the chainsaw wielding maniac. There's a fuel meter bar at the screen's top. Run out of fuel, game over. Fun. Siliconera explains:
When Leatherface finally catches up to a hapless person they fall to the ground and a tiny puddle of what looks like blood appears. It could be blood or it could just be hair, who knows. This one little scene is what kept the Texas Chainsaw Massacre from many store shelves. Wizard Games was forced to sell the game to only a few places instead of giving it mass distribution, which makes the cartridges a rarity.
The kicker (literally) is when Leatherface runs out of fuel, one of his victims appears and kicks him in the buttocks repeatedly. And Leatherface, being the 6-foot-tall mentally challenged psycho he is, takes it.
