Poor Europe. Always last to get product. Screwed over by the gaming industry on a regular basis. But, you know what? Europe doesn't mind. In fact, delays make the continent want it more. Europe is masochistic. Just ask Sony VP Jamie MacDonald, who says:
European consumers have shown that historically they don't mind [the delays], because they end up buying as many PlayStations, if not more, than the US and Japan. In Europe, it doesn't seem that the release of our platforms after the US and Japan—in the long run—affects how consumers feel.
And. He. Doesn't. Stop.
If we were sitting here in five years' time, I don't think we'd really think about or notice that PlayStation 3 was four or five months later in Europe. I think in the long run, PlayStation 3 will succeed because of the great product it is and the great software we make for it.
You know, he's probably right. But does he have to say that? And now? At TGS, I came away with a very favorable impression of the PLAYSTATION 3 console and launch titles, and I really thought Sony still could turn things around. But, why do their upper management always have to shoot their mouths off? Is the entire organization infected with a case of teh stupid?
