1995: EA releases Jungle Strike for SNES in Japan. You commanded a helicopter with one goal: Kick. Some. Ass. The Strike games were a lot of fun. Something about helicopters has always been more interesting to this pacifist than planes. Especially those old GI Joe double copters - totally ridiculous and totally awesome.
1997: With the incredible success of the horrid/evil/why are people starving Beanie Babies, it's announced that Nintendo has licensed out their characters for sale at 7-Eleven, JC Penney and other fine stores. How did we miss this? It's possibly, nay, definitely the only positive thing to come out of the beanielust that was the 90s. We know there are a few Kotaku collectors out there among us, so we are going to deal with this like they would in military. Don't ask. Don't tell.
2005: Konami releases Rhapsodia for PS2 in Japan. It's another installment in the Suikoden series - and this one eventually makes its way to the US as well. Any big fans of the series want to comment on how awesome the games are and how ignorant Americans can't appreciate the subtleties of the original Japanese and how tactical RPGs are the best thing EVAR? We don't know. We wished Rhapsodia was some hidden gem music game that we hadn't heard of.
