While this article is written in a ground-floor style that lavishes explanation on its non-gamer readers, the jist of the piece is pretty overblown: if the Wii fails, innovation itself will take the blame.
In a landscape already filled with the carcasses of those that dared to try something new, and publishers more afraid than ever to try something a little different, the high-profile failure of a system that tried to put innovation and fun before graphics could be the final nail in the coffin of creativity.
I dunno if I'd go that far. Nintendo digs the crazy gimmicks and sometimes come out on top with 'em (the DS being the prime example), but Nintendo is not innovation's keeper.
And as long as they keep making you buy Zelda and then thank them for it, I will never be able to think of them as bastions of originality. That's up to the fanboys, who I'm sure are about to explode all over the comments.
