This Day in Gaming, July 18th

1997: The U.S. Senate, under the leadership of Senator Lauch Faircloth, unanimously passes an amendment to remove all computer games from federal government computers. Makes sense - the government gets to kill people for real, so Battlefield 2 is like a baby toy. Oh, we joke, we joke. Really it was because games like Minesweeper and Solitaire are just too "thinky" for most politicians.

2001: Microsoft releases MechCommander 2 for PC. While gamers believe they are controlling fictional arsenals of giant robots, all-powerful Bill Gates instead plans to *&(*($*#&!*&!#@(.#&$Ipod(*&%(#*$&(#&@#^Bono(*#&$#&@^$*@Africa.

2002: Codemasters releases Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing for XBOX. Kotaku later takes the high road and doesn't make any ear jokes about it. Yes, we said ear jokes. EAR JOKES!
