While the Xbox 360 has been a hit in Europe and America, it isn't exactly flying off shelves in Japan. Microsoft has sold around 150,000 units since it launch last December—one of which, I purchased. The company continues to focus on the Land of the Rising Sun by creating big time RPGs from Mizuguchi (Lumines) and Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy). Microsoft's Shane Kim said:
We're committed to Japan for the long run, and we're off to a solid but not spectacular start, and I think that's what we expected to happen.
Not sure if they really "expected" 150,000 consoles sold. And if they did, that's pretty sad. I have noticed an increase in the Japanese players checking out the 360 kiosk at game retailers, so all might not be lost. Call me an optimist.
