Remember Brian Kopp? He's the lad who wrote a gold farming guide for World of Warcraft and sold it for $15 a PDF over eBay. In zoomed the lawyers, having his eBay account shutdown and issuing a cease-and-desist, claiming he was breaking intellectual property laws.
Well, Brian Kopp has won his case. No matter how you feel about eBayers or gold farmers, this is good news. Vivendi's suit against Kopp was just bullying, plain and simple. Writing a strategy guide about a game and making money from it is really no different than selling a book about film criticism: both are amply covered by fair use. Kopp's book featured a disclaimer and numerous screenshots which, again, fell under the domain of fair use. It's nice to see entrepreneurs not knuckle under at the first sign of difficulty.
