As we posted earlier, the Cyberathlete Professional League World Tour has been stuffed. There's been no official announcement from the CPL, but the organization's founder, Angel Munoz, is saying the tourney is a no-go.
This year's event was organized around Quake IV and offered pro-gamers like Fatal1ty the chance to cash in big time. Last year, the league gave away a million bucks in prizes. Pros are lamenting the cancellation.
But, is the 2006 tour really canned?
Kotaku commenter and NYC-based journo Robert Summa pinged us, saying he had just received an email regarding this year's CPL World Tour. The email reads:
The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) has officially announced that Advanced Micro Devices (UMD) has become the worldwide lead title sponsor for all upcoming gaming tournaments in the United States, including international competitions. Please post this update so fans of the CPL and pro-gamers alike can read about this exciting news. Drop me a line with any questions.
Uh, like what the hell is going on?
