A little game by the name of Final Fantasy XII was released in Japan this past week, and it wound up selling a few copies. We don't get the localized English version until October or November this year, but that's no reason why you can't whet your RPG appetite with some delicious gameplay impressions.

Fortunately, 1UP's Jeremy Parish has three days worth of hands-on details from the Japanese version. From the very exciting "gambit" system, which he describes as a rudimentary programming language for your party, to the "license board", akin to the FFX "sphere grid" for character upgrades, the game sounds very solid. It's the first new Final Fantasy game I've been excited to play since part VII, but this might be a "love it or hate it" entry in the series.
