An Xbox forums poster typed up what he claims to be an article on the new Halo that is in an issue of GameInformer.
The article says that the Bungie team is working on the latest Halo, code-named Forerunner, and that it will include huge environments and be somewhat open-ended.
The game will include 4-player co-op mode and a GamInformer source has seen the game in action.
