With the recent Merril Lynch reports drumming up a hub-bub about how much Sony's PlayStation 3 costs to make, more people are obviously wondering how much of a loss Sony will have to take to sell the system. An article at CNet looks at why the components for the PS3 are so expensive and what's inside that box. The lowest figure CNet comes up with for the system's cost is roughly $700, which is still $200 more than Microsoft's Xbox 360. It's also noted in the feature that Merril Lynch's figure of $900 for the components was incorrect and that the company meant to release that number as $800. So how much will we see the PS3 on shelves for? The CNet article says analysts still expect it to price similar to the Xbox 360 - but will Sony take that big of a loss per unit? Or do they have some grand rabbit up their sleeve?
Thanks, Chilly
