While controversy has erupted in the US and Europe regarding video games, Japan has largely avoided the issue until now. The country's Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) has devised a new Adult Only category for select titles.
The new system begins March 1st and will have four ratings labeled A-D. Adult games will be given a Z rating. The A rating is all ages, B is for 12 and up, C is for 15 and D is for ages 17 and over.
The reason for this shift is due to Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto III, which has been banned in two prefectures. How this new rating system will effect the industry remains to be seen. But, should makers of adult titles be worried? Meh.
