Xbox 360 Launch By the Numbers

    jasoncross.jpg

Jason Cross has put together an analytical look at the Xbox 360 launch titles. He used Gamerankings.com to compile total launch titles, average review scores and top review scores of the Xbox 360, Xbox, PS2, Gamecube and Dreamcast.

The bottom line is that the 360 had an average number of launch titles, with typically decent review scores (78.4 percent). But what I find more interesting is that the consoles with the highest scored launch titles and top five launch titles, were the ones that either failed miserably (Dreamcast) or aren't doing so hot now (GameCube) in terms of market share.

What I think this shows is that for mainstream consumers, having fantastic launch titles doesn t necessarily translate into success.

Things like timing, marketing, price and supply are probably the chief factors toward success, which makes me a little sad.
