Wired has a piece prefacing this weekend's Machinima Film Festival. We've written about the medium, which uses game technology to craft movies, a bunch as its as fascinating to Kotaku as it probably is to the people behind this festival.
Not everyone is a fan, however. Machinima itself makes some folks leary. Eventually, movie-makers will run into copyright infringements while making their flicks. Doug Lombardi, marketing dude for Valve points out why some companies don't want their assets to leak: "But if Lucas or any similar IP holder released some of their digital assets to the community for noncommercial use, there would be at least a dozen new Jedi adventures that surpass anything that's come off (Lucas' Skywalker) Ranch in recent history. But perhaps that's why they are so panicked."
Fanmade Jedi? Sounds like a chance to shamelessly link the Star Wars Kid.
