    Wrist Gaming

After posting about the guy who ran out and bought a Fossil Wrist PDA to play adventure games on, I ran out and bought a Fossil Wrist PDA to play adventure games on. Yes, I'm that weak-willed. I can report that the Wrist PDA kicks mucho ass in many ways and sucks huge holiday chestnuts in at least one way.

The PDA comes loaded with Palm OS 4.0 and 8 megs of memory, so you can actually load quite a lot of different games on the watch. I've only had it for a few days so I haven't tested that many, but here's what I did get to.

Frobnitz, a sort of Zork knock-off text adventure, is a sheer delight to play on the watch. I think it has completely renewed my love of the nearly forgotten genre. I love that I can hop into the game, play a few minutes and hop right out without anyone taking notice.

Chess Genius is, so far, my favorite game for the watch. The fact that you can expand the board to take up the entire screen is perfect and it's awesome to be able to play quick pick-up chess games without having to screw around.

Farkle is OK on the watch, though the tiny screen makes much of the graphics worthless and I personally think it's selling for way, way too much.

And that's the main thing I don't like about the watch, its screen is soooo super tiny. I even had some problems reading stuff on it at times and I have a SPOT watch. The watch itself is quite comfortable and looks pretty nice and techie. I was in an interview (I'm a police reporter with my full-time job) with the FBI on Friday and one of the agents stopped me in mid-question to ask about the watch. I ended up showing it off to three agents for about 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure one of them is going to end up buying one.

Despite the one glaring flaw, I think this bad boy is certainly worth the $75 or so I paid for it and highly recommend it to any watchophiles out there.

I plan on spending the next day or two hunting up a older version of Sim City, one that runs on 4.0 instead of Palm OS 5.0 and giving it a try. I also must, MUST, MUST find a way to play Doom on my watch. Then I can die a happy man.
