We've all gone through our bit of Doom 3 agitation. We played the game, got scared for a bit and then angry for a lot longer. When I reviewed the game for the Rocky I said it was more of a ride through a haunted house than the sort of immersive gaming experience I'd come to expect from id.

I just ask that you put aside the fact that you've likely already doggy paddled through a stream of hate reviews on the game, and give it a read. Veteran animator Steve Bowler goes beyond what he calls the zombie-shuffle pace of the game to talk about how Doom 3's lackluster gameplay is symptomatic of a much bigger issue: id's slip from first-person shooter dominance.
