Not only did I find an interesting type of review about Nintendogs over the weekend, I found it on a great new game design site. Fellow Coloradoan Danc pointed me to his site Los Garden over the weekend to read his take on Nintendogs. Instead of writing up another pointless game review, Danc sets out to write up a game design review.
The idea is to "highlight successes and failures of the various layers of the game design" instead of just saying whether you should buy the game or if it was fun.
The succinct review not only manages to dissect the design efforts, but it also delivers a short primer on some game design theory for the novice. It's a great read and actually educational. I'm looking forward to more of these down the line.
